excellent reviews on the vehicle itself. other car reviewers always show themselves driving the car and talking. it seem more about them and their opinions. but your work is by far directly about the vehicles. great job.

I always thought this SUV was a LX 570 and Mercedes GLS rival. Clearly it isn't close to any of them, this is clearly a Lexus RX, BMW X5, Mercedes GLE and Volvo XC90 rival. I must say it isn't as good as its rival in terms of interior design and quality. The Lexus RX design is better and has better quality too. This car comes with too much plastic, even the dashboard is soft touch plastic. On the RX its leather and same with some other rivals. Even the door bin compartment is hard plastic, that's not the case in many of its rivals. I would definitely take a Lexus RX, Volvo XC 90 and Mercedes GLE to this. It just isn't great enough and it has a base price slightly more expensive than the RX as well. The only thing this car offers not on the RX is available massaging seats as an option.

I do not mean to shit all over your great review, because it honestly is pretty good, but I just want you to know that 15 minutes in you said "as you can hear it sounds great" Since you are recording through a microphone that obviously doesn't have the same quality as the sound system in that car, it sounds like shit, man. We can't tell how good it sounds because we aren't in the car ourselves.

I just bought a silver Prestige Q7 without the Optic package. We own two A4 wagons (my wife likes wagons, not a SOCCER mom). My previous car a BMW 550 GT xI with only 39000 miles started needing a lot of maintenance and repairs. I was hoping to get the Q7 e tron, unfortunately, due to the VW debacle, we may never see that car. Our Audi A4 experience has been quite positive, and so we decided to add this SUV to the stable. As the reviewer described, this is an expensive luxury car. You are possibly spending about 15K to 20 K more than other comparable vehicles. Living in New England, the Quattro system is quite important. Last 3 weeks we have had multiple snow storms. This car handles phenomenally well. Here are some great positives and some ???? item.
      1) Extremely comfortable seats and other adjustments.Adjustable and heated back seats was a hit with my friends.
      2) Driving feels more in line with a car than a HEAVY SUV type feeling. I used to own a Toyota Landcruiser. I was sold on this car with the test drive. The steering response and the handling, for the most part, feels like a car and not an SUV. You are sitting higher, but do not feel unstable at all. At times, my Land Cruiser used to feel top heavy and gave a jittery feeling.
      3) The lane departure warning and the blind spot warning ( a flashing bright yellow LED light built in the mirror. Near the door side). This features, in my opinion, are critical. When you are driving a big vehicle on the busy roadways, safety is very important.
      3) The Bose sound system is beautiful. However, it's designed for today's technology. I have older iPods with phenomenal music on it. A music lover has gifted these units to me with hard to find old classical music and songs from the generation past Indian films playback artists. The only way to play the older iPod music is through the auxiliary. It will not allow charging, indexing or shuffling. I have to charge the unit using the lighter slot. The sound system requires individualized adjustment for each device attached or used ( iPhone, iPod, car radio etc). This was told to me by the salesman. It is a pain in the neck.
      4) The run flat tires for this vehicle will be " need to keep an eye on the category". My previous BMW had the run flat tires. I went through 2 sets in 37K miles. They are very expensive to replace. This time, I did buy an additional package for the tires and the wheels ($2500). The car sometimes gives a SUDDEN swaying/shifting feeling for a brief second or two. I think this happens more so when the stiff run-flat tires hit an uneven road surface. Fortunately, it is a very brief event and the car regains the control very quickly.
      5) Phone connection. The pairing went fine. The menu keeps bringing it back to " who do you want to call". I suspect there is some programming widget that I am missing. Another issue is dialing the extension option after you have connected. Instead of a standard keypad, Audi has offered a linear number sequence. This is not user-friendly and it is distracting. Audi also offers the handwriting pad in front of the shifter. I think this is DANGEROUS. Looking down to enter a number while driving is a " No".
Audi is known for its outstanding technology. Have they over-engineered the MMI with too many options? I hope not! I am still exploring and learning the MMI options, and how to utilize many functions. Only time will tell.
      6) The sticker describes average miles/gallon in city, highway etc. I think the numbers are cooked! I do most of my driving in the city with quite a few lights and stop signs. I have gotten about 12 miles/gallon in the city driving ( 16/gallon as per the sticker). Few longer distance trips, I got 22 miles/gallon.

This could be a really nice SUV, if they did a little more refinement on the front and handling; heavey. also that screen should be capable of folding down or push down. The stance of of the front profile of the Q7, look as if it's is pointing up or it give a impression that your shocks are worn on the rear.. when looking at the vehicle. Maybe it could be lower in the front or raise in the rear. When this SUV move as if the front hood is raise up.

We were about to close the transaction and drive the prestige model when I told the rep if he can show the third row vent for my dog who's passion is to ride with me. Guess what? No 3rd row vents and it's a big let down. I guess that 3rd row seats are just for competition sake and sale pitch. Here, the Texas heat is between 90 - 100+ degrees F that could last til mid November. That's just outside temp. what about inside the vehicle?

The Prestige still has way too much plastic. Check out a Grand Cherokee Summit with "Signature interior" package. It will put a fully optioned out Q7 interior to shame. No joke. The GC Signature has everything covered from top to bottom in THE best leather, wood with suede headliner, visors, etc. Its a brave new world for Jeep. I am even a 2 decade Audi owner.

Typical Audi. The highest trim Q7 Prestige only has the available bells and whistles that aren't even offered on the lower trim levels. Some of those technology and luxury options aren't even standard at that price. It's a shame Audi and the other German luxury automakers continue to nickel and dime you on overpriced option packages. I'm glad I chose my XC90 R-DESIGN over the Audi Q7 I was cross shopping against it. That Audi (Premium Plus) stickered about $600 more than my Volvo, but had much less standard features (no 4 corner adaptive suspension, auto self parking, Bowers and Wilkins premium audio system, 4 zone climate, etc.). The Audi definitely has better engine performance with its bigger engine but the Volvo is a better value for luxury and technology options. That said, the Q7 Prestige is a very impressive vehicle. A little more than $100,000 should buy you every available option Audi offers, including those audio speakers that pop out of the dashboard for example which cost $5,000.

J High Well, they're better than Porsche, when it comes to options that come standard. The XC90 is nice, but I still don't think they're as nice as the Q7's... Although, that's going to come down to a person's preference for design. Volvo definitely is not as reliable when it comes to maintenance though.
