I love to hear when ppl talk about evos are faster than a sti lol yeah they maybe faster "stock" to "stock" you want a fast stock evo get a evo 9 but my point is build both cars and the faster one is the one who has more $ of course but I still prefer an sti i just love it, i love my 07 Hawkeye sti built for the 1/4 mile only evo killer all day EJ257 FTW!..

A built EVO 9 will run laps on a boxer... an STI isn't even in the same league if we're talking built... at that point it's a grown man's game, we're chasing v8's and GTR's at full bolt ons/stroker/cams..

No way the Sti will go from 0-60 in 4.5 secs stock, I have owned both a 2013 sti and now 14 evo gsr and can honestly say the gsr is so much better in every aspect including off the line acceleration.

Edmunds has always been terrible at testing cars, never researching the vehicle before testing it, Evo has launch control and yet it was never used also need to turn off traction control and of course that never happened. I honestly never go by there numbers due to the fact they never test the vehicles to the full potential. Mazdaspeed was another failure of testing by edmunds.

+Evolution Also not to mention how they bring up the hatch STI as an example of subaru having to change to adapt to the market... There has always been a hatch version lol xD Only difference is that this time the hatch came before the sedan that's all lol. They barely do any research it seems.... and crap testing lol. Not hitting one single gravel road, what the hell do they think these cars are about??

I can't pick a favorite, I've owned both, A 08 evo. And and 04 wrx sti, I love both cars, They're both amazing. I just brought home a 2013. Wrx sti hatchback. And I've only driven it about 200 miles. And I love it to death, And like they say on Top gear. One finger power slides anyone:)

+Cameron Hill Also, I don't know if anyone elses dealership offers the same Exclusive subaru insurance. Mine does. Free Key replacment (incase you didn't know the keys for the 13' are about 350 bucks) Seat replacement if it get a tear. Rim replacement in case you get curb rash. Free window replaces ment. Non-paint dent repair, And a boat load of other amazing stuff. At a one time cost of 2500$ at the dealership. Well worth the money. Oh and the insurance Covers both the turbo and intercooler. (your warrenty doesn't) :)

EVO and STI have always been rivals.  I have always respect the STI.  However, I'm not impressed with the hatchback.  As for the EVO 10, I'll stick with the EVO 9 and hope the EVO 11 resurrects the EVO heritage.

+Christopher Belshe Also you should know the Hatchback received handling updates before it went out of production. This was the original launch edition and they tweaked tons of stuff after the sedan version came out with precise steering that dealt more with the understeer etc. But yeah you can't go wrong with any of these.. Only thing I can advice is to stay clear of automated manuals. As fast as they are, they take as much of the driving experience away too. And in real world driving you don't notice the difference in change speed cus you won't be hunting perfect lap times every day :)

You wanna bash the Evo and give false results on 0-60s and such when you're doing 2 things wrong: the Evo is down 14 horsepower, but only 5 lb ft of torque. On top of that, the drivetrain is lighter and a lighter flywheel. Motor spins up quicker. There's no way in hell that sti is stock if you're pulling a 4.5 second 0-60. Everyone, even top gear says it's in the low 5's. And you're launching the Evo at what? 4 grand? AND you're slipping the clutch and not dumping it, like you did on the sti. Launch it from 5500 (the launch control rpm set) and dump the clutch, with acs off, and I guarantee you a 4.8 second 0-60. My Evo makes 377whp/401wtq and I 0-60 in 3.6.

Twll me someone agrees with this bs in this video.

+Stonewall Jack I can definitely see where you're coming from. Mine is a crazy pain in the ass to drive in traffic, especially with the 4 puck clutch. I thought about the MR, for a long time before I settled on the GSR. Don't get me wrong, I have sciatica in both legs, a crazy screwed up back (compliments of living after someone tboned me at 75mph), but man, I'm telling you, for the enjoyment that I get, from the second I launch it, to 8100 when I shift, it's undescribable. I would think the MR shifts automatically for you if you get it above 7500 or so. Call me crazy, but I'm about to go and buy an sti just to have both, now I'll probably daily the Evo, but, if they aren't coming 9ut with another generation, then we'll all have to turn to Subaru at some point. Now I know the Evo is the more power hungry of the 2,less than 8 grand in mine and I make 404whp,and 423wtq. It's mind boggling. But I'm pretty sure that's where I'll stay. It's plenty enough power for me. And that coming from a 22 year old, I'm very sure is rare. But I surely hope that you enjoy your MR and that your legs don't hurt you too bad, it's a damn shame things can go wrong on our bodies about as easily as something can go wrong on a car.
      Cheers,
      Mike

When we're these cars ruined? well when things like launch control are needed to get the best out of the car. These cars moved too far away from what made them great in the first place, & when did that happen......when the American market got hold of them. They should of stayed no nonsense performance cars & stopped trying to please a wider audience.

+Jay Burgess If I was going down the money no object route I'd go for an Evo VI, I think it's the car the best encapsulates what was so good about the Evo in the first place.
In the UK you can get hold of pretty much any Evolution you fancy, including the Evo X RS which is stripped of pointless gadgets, if I was going for a X that's the one to have.

If you want that . Then buy a new one and strip it down . No interior. Put in solid motor mounts and a straight pipe exhaust. Then it should be similar to those 90s cars that you desire.

The Evo for The U.S. Is such BS! The European model is putting down 400hp and we only get to tap into 291 of it? If we had the down from Europe and it wouldn't even review for this. Safety regulations that I just don't understand

Tell me about it. The Japanese version STI is better than the US version as well. If you're talking about the fq400 that's a completely different Evo. More $$ to spend on a fully modified Evo.

+LAVASTICK No, of course I wouldn't use the discontinuation to say that the car has inferior performance, but it does speak volumes toward economics. Still, like I said, the Evo is the better performing car. No regrets on my end either :)

+centripetal25 Lol, and what is that supposed to mean? Car manufacturing is always balance between cost and performance unless you are building a Bugatti.

I chose Evo of the two because of the precision that I felt driving it. I also think it looks better on the outside. Interior is a totally different story. So far I had no regrets.

Also,@BroccolliDog, you sound like the fact that car is discontinued or not affect the performance of the car? Then many other legendary models that are discontinued are not as good?

What makes a good car is performance, price, looks, reliability, etc. And "does a new model come out soon?" is not in this list.

The 4b11 is about as strong stock as a stock ej25, both maxing at about 400 whp. The 4g63 is a other story but I think overall they are all great engines. Mitsu engineers didn't "build it right" or any better than subaru. They both have their weaknesses, and it all boils down to personal preference. I chose my wrx because I think it looks better, both inside and out
