www.autobytel.com/toyota/matrix/2012/ If you are in the market for a practical and affordable family vehicle then the 2012 Toyota Matrix should be considered. The Matrix was redesigned for the 2009 model year but Toyota has decided to give this 5-door hatchback a couple of upgrades along the way. On the outside the Matrix got more aggressive front and rear bumpers along with sporty wheels. On the inside the 2012 Matrix gets some minor upgrades too including better materials, a leather steering wheel, and Bluetooth. The base price on the 2012 Toyota Matrix is $18,845 with the top of the line AWD model costing $21,715.

There are 2 different engine types offered on the 2012 Toyota Matrix. The first is he smaller 1.8 liter 4-cylinder engine that produces 132 horsepower and 128 lb-ft. of torque. Fuel economy for this engine is 26 MPG in the city and 32 MPG on the highway. The larger engine is a 2.4 liter 4-cylinder engine that makes 158 horsepower and 162 lb-ft. of torque. This larger more powerful engine gets 21 MPG in the city and 29 MPG on the highway.

Out back the 2012 Toyota Matrix features 60/40 split folding rear seats. With the seats down there is ample cargo room at 49 cubic feet. Toyota is known for making quality vehicles and the Matrix has been around for some time now with no major problems. This hatchback comes with a great 60 month/60k mile powertrain warranty. There is also some good technology in the Matrix which is really a simple economical car. The gauges look great and the stereo is modern and sounds great. The 2012 Toyota Matrix is a very safe bet for those looking for a 5-door hatchback.

I just traded my 2014 Corolla s tech in on a base 2012 matrix. I needed a simple car with more room. I have no regrets.

I don't know about that. But the seats fold down and have a lot of space in the back. It's not a 'great' car but it's a good car.

We got a Vibe in 2006. It was the best deal we could get for the size of car. It was nothing exciting, just basic transportation. Got to 250,000 and realized we never had to do anything to it except maintenance. Sold it to our daughter and had to get it inspected to transfer it. It needed front brake pads and a wiper blade. We got a corolla in 2012 but the wife was not happy with it. So in 2013 we got a Matrix. We average 40 mpg highway with both. Daughter is still driving the vibe and is close to 300,000 kms on it. still has not fixed anything on it. I think we did OK.

The Matrix and the Vibe are pretty awesome cars. The interior is bland but the exterior styling is pretty good - especially on the xrs and Vibe GT. These are great used bargains that accomplish something that most reviewers overlook: you can fit four 6' adults comfortably in this vehicle and carry cargo. Neither Volkswagen, Mazda, or Ford competitors can boast this. SUV interior proportions on a Corolla platform that's fun to drive. Sad to see this car go.

This is one of the oldest "new" cars on the market today. Looks essentially the same as the original Matrix introduced for 2003.

Actual Autobytel is wrong. Ever since 2010, the 2.4 engine has been mated with a 5 speed automatic transmission or a 5 speed manual (the 2.4L I4 AWD Drivetrain still has a 4 Speed)

that's funny, he said drama-free and quality in the same sentence describing a Toyota; and the last :17 of this review is full of crap. My family has grown up on Toyotas and I have owned three of them, but i definitely see a lack-luster quality now, probably would not buy a new one.

no turbo from toyota in USA, period. YES LAME!
i know they have technology but they are too cheap to develop/bring to US. so to save time and money for them, 3.5 6 is what we already have for 265hp.

is there some unknown reason toyota doesnt tune any of their cars? this is the perfect car to compete with the speed3, focus st n so on. tune the engine to reach the 200's, slap a turbo on it, sport style trim n 18 inch rims n they got somethin..
