Just wanted to provide an update on the remote start hack situation. This is well known now and getting these fobs is getting harder and more expensive. If interested in doing this I would definitely look to pick one of these up ASAP and probably would try a local locksmith first since a lot of dealers I hear are having issues doing this for people. It’s a great mod and definitely worth doing. Hopefully this helps some of you who are considering doing this. Feel free to leave a comment if you need help. Thanks for everything.

Can you use a key fob from an older ex like 2015-2017 ? If it looks same? With remote start button

I don’t think so. The security systems are different. You would have to try it but personally I wouldn’t try since your going from a different year

Yeah. It says call for availability. This means they are usually back ordered. I have heard of people waiting a month. Best to make sure wherever you buy it that’s it’s in stock. 👍🏻

IT WORKS! Just wanted say that for those that don't believe it. 2018 Accord Sport 1.5t and now I have remote start.

I ordered part number 72147-TVA-A01 and was able to get it for ~$75 shipped.

Got it from an online Honda parts website, was backordered for about a month but just got it yesterday. A locksmith or a sensible Honda dealer should have no trouble programming the key. I happen to have access to the equipment myself so I did it and it only took a matter of a few minutes. So I'm into it for less than $100 and have remote start!

Purchased online FOB, had it installed today in SF Bay Area at a local Honda dealership. FOB, $82.94 with no tax and small shipping chug at Carandtruckremotes.com, and $92.50 for Honda dealership programming. One dealership wanted $170 to program, walked out. Total cost for complete install today $175, tech was surprised it worked. I am a happy camper!

I ordered a fob literally a month ago on Honda Oem website without giving the VIN. It still hasn’t arrived..... they just keep telling me it’s on backorder. at this point. I might try try find another place that can ship it immediately. And ask for a refund...

    • Honda Jon
Honda Jon In reply to Mr Niz

If they let you refund I would. Like I said give it a couple weeks and you’ll find a lot of places have them in stock ready to be shipped. It’s just they are on back order right now. I would be scared that it would get lost since everybody’s probably going to be ordering them right now. Then when I get them back in stock you won’t have to wait for it.

Hightech locksmiths, they'll go to your house and program the keys from anywhere from $110 to $140 dollars. And that price is including the key, labor, and programming.

I did this hack 2-3 months ago now. I called a few dealers to find a Fob, they required a VIN in order get the fob, so I searched another dealer in the areas website for an Ex-L VIN, gave them that and didn’t have any issue. I paid $71 for the key then had Car keys express program it for me, the guy charge me $20 and it took him 10 minutes.

My previous car had remote start and I used it maybe 3-4 times in the 3 years I had the car. Haven’t missed any of the fully loaded options from my previous car that didn’t come on the accord sport. Affirmed that I was paying for junk I don’t use like heated steering wheel.
