The Honda Civic Type R crushes the competition, and all for less money. At $35,000, you might not expect the Civic to be faster than the more expensive Ford Focus RS, VW Golf R, and even the limited edition Subaru WRX STI Type RA, but it is. Whether it's acceleration, track times, braking distances, useable cargo space, or efficiency, the Civic Type R puts down incredible numbers.

At the heart of the Type R is the K20C1 engine, a two-liter inline four-cylinder that's turbocharged packing 295 lb-ft of torque, and 306 horsepower. In this video we'll explore the numbers surrounding the Civic Type R, and deep dive into the engine to find out just what makes it so special.

IMO 4 cylindercars sounds like trash and ruins the sports car experience. Part of the feel when driving a sports car is the sound. This 4 banger fails....

Twin turbo config would keep the torque curve much more consistent in the Accord. Bigger turbo would kick in when smaller one reaches its peak boost.

+Geoff Finnigan I was also looking for an RS, but opted for the Honda, no regrets, although I haven't driven an RS yet, maybe if I do I'll change my mind

I was up in the air about this and the RS. The RS came with a set of mounted winters and mounted Comp 2's, it is AWD, and Ford gave me 0% Financing, after a test drive. Honda would not even let me test drive the car, it is FWD, and comes with one set of summers. Also the RS has the drift button.

If they could lower the wing a little bit and get rid of those huge plastic "air vents" on the front and back (which I'm sure they're gonna do for all civics in a mid-cycle refresh) that would be a really good looking car. I still like the way it looks, just my two gripes...

Ashneel P they always compare cars against a manual golf r, they never do comparisons against the dsg. We all know the dsg golf r destroys the type r, focus rs and the Sti.

Direct injection, so won’t it have carbon buildup and cause problems down the line?

so the only drawback to the civic type R as appose to the others is if you reside in a state where it snows a lot. I am curious tho if the Type R engine is a direct swap in the accord.
