The Honda Civic Type R crushes the competition, and all for less money. At $35,000, you might not expect the Civic to be faster than the more expensive Ford Focus RS, VW Golf R, and even the limited edition Subaru WRX STI Type RA, but it is. Whether it's acceleration, track times, braking distances, useable cargo space, or efficiency, the Civic Type R puts down incredible numbers.

At the heart of the Type R is the K20C1 engine, a two-liter inline four-cylinder that's turbocharged packing 295 lb-ft of torque, and 306 horsepower. In this video we'll explore the numbers surrounding the Civic Type R, and deep dive into the engine to find out just what makes it so special.

Why not forged pistons? Does that increase emissions?

I own the 2019 Accord 2.0T 6MT; I opted for the Accord because of its calmer looks and more touring-style drive vs brutal track attack car. I know the 2.0T is tamed down in the Accord but it's still a rocker and blast to drive. The transmission is also the same as the one in Type R, just different gear ratios, etc. Bonus is it's $5K cheaper too than the Type R (not a deciding factor but still nice).

Does the 2019 accord sport 2.0t have the exact civic type-r motor shown in this video?

Turbos suck on longevity especially on smaller motors. I can't believe how ugly Honda cars are getting, especially the accord

Not sure where they are pulling their 0-60 times from, Golf R is 4.5 seconds.

      Hi. Jason.
I watch your channel regularly and love the videos, thank you so much from Canada, 2 months
ago I start to look for performance car and fun to drive that the working class can afford it because I lived in the cold climate and lots of snow during winter time, my first consideration is 4wd, after watching your other video, you said you might upset sti owner, thanks again for sharing your technical knowledge, so I picked the civic type R with unmistakable and no regret for 60 birthday, peoples often said you too old for the car then so what ?

AWD are heavy and loose top end speed. Stock SRT4 neon with less HP will beat the STI and EVO stock for stock in speed. I am glad Honda took notice and kept the FWD layout on their civic r.

One of these pulled next to me on the highway at around 70mph in my BMW 335d. He signaled to race and punched it. At 315hp stock it was impressive...until put my peddle to the floor. I passed him doing 100hp and left him in my rear view. Wasn’t even close. You can’t beat a tuned BMW M57 engine...unless maybe if it’s a S85.

You said crank and rods are forged.. What about pistons? You know.. the thing that breaks more often than not (rods are tied)..

Sodium filled valves was an sti innovation IIRC. But doesn't titanium trump thus?

Seeing a headless cam system would be better than all that. I wonder when they'll stop using heads and finally move on. (I wonder when the patent runs out).

I like all of those stats. But I recall seeing something the other day stating they are recalling that engine for some reason.
