Funny,If you look at the oldest VW Advertising, it actually had the Nazi swastika in it
The first Volkswagon corporate logo had the swastika prominently displayed right in the center
When you see a beetle, think that Adolf Hitler commissioning "The Peoples Car"

Gunna call you out here the largest motor they put in the old beetles was the 1600 cc 75 hp super beetle. Its basically the 55 hp but with larger pistons and jugs

I had a 98 new beetle tdi, 5 speed manual. I didn't really have major failures. What got repaired in 250,000+ mi: timing belts (routine), ac compressor (late in life), window regulators (power windows just suck), rear brake caliper (froze pinching the disc after a bad winter + lots of salt, later in life). Never had to replace the clutch.
I wouldn't trust a gas VW, nor one with an automatic.

Well, the first beetle was function over form. The new ones were form over function. There's why they suck.

I honestly believe the reason why the old beetle stopped selling in the US was the EPA.

Wifey bought a new beetle in the late 2000s. At the time, I performed all maintenance and repairs on our cars, but a few years after getting the beetle, she (traumatically) divorced me. Suddenly, she found herself having to maintain it herself - or pay to have it maintained. After it began developing serious front end problems, she traded it for a Fiat 500.
      What can I say....

I have a 1999 VW new beetle and boy-o-boy the maintenance just to keep it running is crazy! The lady I bought it from put 5k into it and when the trans went she just sold it after that. I put another 3k into (with mech. Ins.) Now it runs great! The reason why u hardly see new beetles is because they are $$$ to keep them on the road. Most new beetles I see (99-10) are in someone's driveway rusting out. If you can't afford to put money into them then don't buy one! Im going to put a vr6 engine swap in mine within the year so stay tuned!

the man behind the beetle was ferdy porsche, and his zodiac sign was virgo or virgin- the Vw beetle was, with it's motor in the back intsead of the front, the "virginal car". and of course they were dangerous! porsche 911's too. -but they had amazing abilities with the rear engine layout. new beetle came out in 1994 as a concept same year as the Audi TT. 20 years of new beetle was enough lol im a vw porsche fan and they just havent had inspiring designs since the early 90's. i have a 1983 rabbit GTI model, really dig the channel Scotty!!

let's face it.. all cars are pieces of junk the manufacturers force us to buy. mostly shitty engineering. when you have to remove a bumper or complete headlught to remove a peanut bulb, we can tell cars were designed by peanut heads. And when a driveshaft has non greasable ujoints??? like wtff? you are forced to buy a new driveshaft.. or like my friend's company car... $89 for an engine block heater and $1000 to put it in cause you have to remove the intake manifold ! like wtff! we are stupid.. we keep buying their stupid crap designed by stupid engineers. Engineers should be forced to work on the cars they design. And finally when manyfacturers have a good product or design, they can it! like wrff? all too stupid to be called stupid. a caveman would know better.

The TSI engines are pretty great though...they put the same ones in some beetles that they put in the GTI, Jettas and Audi’s.

the vw beetle was a great car the 2008 car sold very well across Europe England and Ireland people didn't want the beetle to stop that's why they brought it back yes it is biased off a vw golf and is a totally reliable car parts are cheap to buy and as long as you stay away from main dealers they are cheap to get serviced they are not a race car its a unique design and lots of people who bought the original vw beetle would only ever consider buying Volkswagens. the fiat 500 is a future classic it may not have sold well in America but again it sold very well in Europe England and Ireland. they hold their value very well and again cheap to run and very relieable and also a very stylish enique design
