Then the x3's timing chain guide brokes, diging a deep hole in the owner's wallet. Meanwhile Scotty Kilmer shakes his hads around yelling "buy Toyota instead".

I have a 2017 BMW X3. It's actually a really good vehicle. Tons of room inside. It's comfortable. With winter tires it's very good in snow and ice. Visibility is great all around and it's very easy to drive and park. I've had zero issues with it and it gets great gas mileage. I'm quite happy with it.

Your choice is: 1). Fun to drive (BMW) or 2). Value (Rav4). The BMW will lose apx 35%+ depreciation in the first 3 years of ownership (that's why most folks lease them), it will spend an inordinate amount of time in the shop (ALWAYS have your Euro car under warranty), and if you keep it beyond 3 years or so it will be a proverbial money pit and rust like a cheap tin can. The Rav will still be running strong when the Beamer is 300 pounds of rust rotting away in your local junk yard, will retain a significant amount of its original value and will probably only visit the shop for fluid and brake pad changes. Understand I am an avid BMW Motorad (motorcycle) owner and have owned cars (last one was an M3) but am also a 2x, soon to be 3x Rav4 owner. The Beamers are typically owned by me and the wife gets the predictable Ravs, I intend to get her the new Hybrid XSE in black and white that I know she will drive for at least 8 years (she still lovers her '08, AWD, V6!) so that leaves me on my BMW RT hoping it keeps running without her coming to bail me out with the trailer in tow! Thanks Nate for the review...sorry I just found it. Time to catch up on the '19 Rav reviews...

My mom has a RAV4 and she hates it. No room it's too small and there is no stability at higher speeds. This come from a woman who went from a 2004 GMC YUKON DENALI XL to this crap.

Let's see you compare that BMW to the FJ Cruiser.

How is this even fair? The BMW has two more inches clearance, like 70 more horsepower, looks like it has bigger and better tires, let's see you try that nonsense against my 2009 Rav4 V6 Limited. Every winter I wind up passing those beamers in the snow.

Really wanted to see that 3rd obstacle! I own a 2004 X3 2.5i with a 6 speed manual. It has street tires and it only does “minor” off-roading and all of our snow and mud duties. She has never gotten stuck and just keeps on trucking through. Only complain is that BMW maintenance. Not as bad as others have put it out to be, but definitely a couple of repairs a year (not too unexpected for a 180k mile vehicle though)

I think the BMW could make it up the third obstacle I dont think the rav 4 could do it.

X drive is really good. BMW almost seems like a bargain compared to a $40k Toyota. But reliability in the Toyota >> BMW.

Yeah, the turbocharged BMW with 70 more horsepower and two more inches ground clearance. Totally fair.
