The manual is rubbish at doing a instant launch, start to roll then floor it. Theses clutches are only good for 20 k weak as f**k so be warned keep trying to launch it as it will soon start to slip

Why did you launch on a turn as opposed to a straight line? I think that puts a lot of strain on your CV joints.

I always thought that doing launch control on a manual all wheel drive car is to feather the clutch instead of letting it out fast. Basicly let the clutch out abit slower. A guy on youtube was doing it in his evo

This is such a key tip. Thanks for this. Explains why my launches are so much better when I'm not trying as hard.

Natanzao B another tip is not to let the revs hang before letting the clutch out since the ecu will reduce boost since it knows ur not moving. u want to spike the revs just before letting the clutch out to maximize power. also a slower clutch release instead of a dump will help (it does in my R anyways).

Peter benn pan In reply to Peter benn pan

Try doing the launches with different revs and see which is faster. Just play about with it. I think the car bogs down because your dumping the clutch straight away and because its 4wd the wheels dont slip much. If you let the clutch out slower it wont bog as much. Let the clutch out as though your setting off normally with the revs built up just in alot faster way. Worth a try.

Peter benn pan yeah I've struggled to get a decent launch really, I'll try to let the clutch out slower. What about revs? About 3k or 4K or somewhere else? I find it bogs down sooo quick unless you hit the sweet spot.

Looking now it looks like u hacked the arm rest but u didn't tape the gear arm back so it's stuck slightly open. Check the zed4me vid on where you can stick the tape and it will close fully

nolongerhuman13 hi mate, in the UK spec R's that centre arm rest/storage thing is open as standard. It's up a bit like that as it's adjustable. You can lift it and it has lots of notches or settings, it you lift it all the way up it can then be closed flat. I saw Zeds mod, but didn't need it here on the European spec R. 👊🏼

Tidbit for left or right hand drive menu option. If u select LEFT HAND DRIVE the head lamps will NOT move with steering input while moving. Nor does our arm rest open. Don't ask. Some dumb law here. And u can hack the arm rest thing here but do u guys with right side drive have another USB or adapting charger in yours? We don't

I've had a GTD, GTI and now R. No regrets the R is superb but the best balance between fuel and performance is a GTD but it doesn't have the same fun factor and pure adrenaline that you get with an R. The R is the smile on your face before work!

DSG is faster at launching and changing gear but is it as fun as a manual?! I don't think so, unless your stuck in traffic :(... that's my opinion and I would have got a manual as well.

Love the launch control. Took a few attempts in the DSG to get it right but I wouldn't say it's something I use all the time. Showed a few mates and scared the s**t out of my mum tho 👍🏻 haha.

Try putting traction control into sport rather than completely off, I find in mine that it feels faster although mine is DSG, worth a try though.

I wonder if it's different with row cars and Na cars ice tried everything to launch the manual and it just bogs, I've even tried with a stage 2 eurodyne tune and same result even if I rev up to 6k and dump it the ecu cuts power it seems.

I'll have to try this a time or two in mine. I love my manual transmission R but I do find myself wishing at times that I had the DSG lol. 0-60 in under 4 seconds with a stage 1 tune is definitely impressive to say the least.

Thanks! The APR vent boost gauge looks so OEM. I love it. I still have the resonator and muffler deleted. It's loud but I've gotten used to it after a few hundred miles. Once I go stage 2 I plan to do a full turbo back exhaust setup. A downpipe will make this current setup WAY too loud haha.

Your Blue R looks amazing mate, and the gauge in the air vent! Wow! Have you kept the resonator delete? I think that would be too loud for me on a day to day basis. How you finding it?

Launch control is awesome! I wouldn't say I use it regularly. I would say almost 1 or 2 times a month, but if you go to a 1/4 mile or autocross track except to use it more. I had a situation when I needed to get over 4 lanes over from light to light to make a turn. Launch control allowed me to jump all three cars to get over to the right turn off the next block over. I won't really justify having it. It's just a lot of fun to feel the *SNAP* in acceleration when you do it. You can launch control in any car dynamic mode/setting. Comfort, Normal, and Race. Just make sure you either have traction control on semi-off or full off. You can actually anticipate the light changing. You don't have to hold the gas pedal for a long time and make an A$% of yourself getting attention. The quick step: Brakes down > Gas down > instant 4000 rpm > let go of Brake > and BOOM you're off!!! :)

You should not use it too often, even VW says that it could cause damage when it is used too much.
