Huge 5200 pound suv with a 4.6l v8 making 300 hp ! Ridiculous. Everyone else makes 300 hp with a v6. AND nobody else would make a vehicle this big with so little power. Toyota doesn't put in the effort with stuff like this though.

Fair. But then, the GX has no real competitor in the market. Outside of the full sized SUVs in the big luxury brands, the GX is just about the only mid-sized BOF SUV left. So it's no surprise they got lazy with it. I'm personally hoping for a new iteration of the vehicle, brought up to par with the rest of Lexus's lineup, and hopefully industry-wide, for that matter.

+Dr. TeaRex the Japanese do have lower hp engines. I agree. However , and this is big, the vehicles they put them in are usually LIGHTER. This thing is a big heavy pig with a lazy motor. Toyota has shit the bed here.

Dr. TeaRex In reply to Scott Bott

Horsepower isn't everything. Keep that in mind. Japanese carmakers consistently have low-hp engines compared to American and European brands, but you're not gonna see a Chevy Tahoe or Mercedes-Benz GLE outperform a Toyota Land Cruiser or Nissan Armada outside of very limited circumstances.

I bought the 2018 lexus gx last month, currently with 540 miles on it. And now with passengers inside the car it is already leaning to the right. I called my dealer and they said that it is normal to lean. Is this a KDSS problem? Or coil spring? For a $56000 luxury car it shouldnt be like this. I know this will be a safety issue if you are driving at 65 mph.

Again, in case anyone isn't aware, do NOT buy a 2019 GX 460 or at least get a mega discount on one, because a "new" GX is coming next year in September. The interior and exterior are entirely new.

    • Ike N
      Ike N

First: The GX has not been around "since 2003", it debuted in January 2002 at NAIAS in Detroit. Model years are not literal. Two: Expect a "new" GX in the second half of 2019. This is official, plus more in 4 years. Read between the lines.

Camerons Car Reviews Suit yourself, as quality videos with accurate descriptions will always have better credibility than ones chock full of errors (there are other gaffes). If one cannot take harmless criticism with humble dignity and learn from mistakes within an online community, well...it is what it is. #microchiponshoulder?

On my channels, I welcome criticism and improve with it (this is my personal/news dropping account), only responding in your manner when an outright inflammatory personal attack is posted. Nothing wrong with adding a correction annotation where errors were made later on. Everybody does this, especially after filming a long form video in unpredictable conditions.

As I said before, Lexus will be "redesigning" the J150-based GX next year and 100% for 2023 on modular set-up. Just so you know, the former doesn't refer to the 2019 model, but 2020 model in 2019 (of course). That news is more important and the focal point, but you decided to focus on me pointing out an honest error and are being extremely defensive. Read my original comment and ask yourself if that was even a personal attack, that warrants such upset? Is this what any of us will get if we ever helpfully point something out? I digress.

Ike N Your so called “criticism” was hardly constructive for me and has no impact for others or myself so that’s why you shouldn’t comment. You can express all you want, but I can remove your comment instantly. I get what you’re saying about the GX, however I absolutely hate people like you that picks out such minor details and blows everything out of proportion.

Why are these “reviewers” keep on whining about stupid stuffs like the car shows its age? Does it matters? Any new refreshed competitor is better than this car “aged design”? Not really. This is a man truck. You want a cute design with less knob, buy an rx. Get a dislike from me.

Lol, the thing is, no GM engine will be as smooth or as reliable as the v8 in the GX, due to the fact that the engine is always under stressed. Numbers also don’t speak the truth because the GX moves along just fine and it can hustle a trail better than most cars let alone off road vehicles.
