The all new (well, an important bit is new) BMW i3 fitted with a larger capacity 94 amp hour, (or 33 kilowatt hour) battery is a major step in the right direction. I love this car.

in turkey when you put petrol engine in an ev its customs taxes gets higher so bmw turkey distrubuter does not sale range extended i3. i told bmw seller if i cant put afterwork range extender than there is huge area left at back side why dont you put extra batteries to that space that will make range extra 45-50 km. they answered me "you are right we didnt think about it and will tell your idea to my supervisor" . At that moment i left bmw main dealer and bought a renault zoe.

I've got a 2015 i3. I think it is IT professionals who like these cars the most and revel in the detail. If you are a an under-educated mortal like me, you might become frustrated by the lack of range. The older battery only gives around 70 miles on a charge and it is a weird and slighly disconcerting feeling watching the miles run down. I got the range externder because I go to London regularly (around 100 mile round trip using the M1) and then don't want to be charging at services at midnight. electric cars should be hitting 200 miles minimum to compete with petrol. A German company called Lions Gate has produced a battery with BMW for the i3 that will deliver 435 miles on a charge - now that's a game changer.

120 miles? My fairly clean e250 CDI does 400 miles. EV battery life or range needs to improve substantially plus , where I live there are very, very few charging points. For now I will replace the diesel with a c350e hybrid.

The communists in the USA won't allow us to have the 2.4 gallon fuel tank or the option to "save" the battery!

an Alcohol based range extender would be a nice way to have a EV with a smaller battery

So if they're going to upgrade this to 120Ah / 42 kWh this year - will that be a free upgrade that'll be a great second hand buy :) #BMWi3

Too bad the retrofit doesn't seem like it will materialize in America nor the UK. It would be a right chuff upgrading to a 33kWh and using the 22kWh for a home/solar battery

They should add more battery cells plus an inverter in place of the petrol powered range extender. That would probably give another 60 miles or so.

22 a/h BMW i3 will do 65 miles in the real world on a single charge. Robert you are incorrect in your estimates of mileage

Can you please tell me if the bigger 94aH battery on this newer version is more expensive to charge via a standard home charger as opposed to the 60aH battery and will it take longer to charge.
I mainly want to confirm if this will cost me more in electricity if I bought this as opposed to the older i3.

Which would i buy in Australia, probably the ioniq, given the chance to buy , but the 2016now 2018 ioniq seems like unobtainum in Australia in 2018, the model3, is likely to be first affordable ev in Australia , so for us now, it the model s or the i3 both cost a huge amount of money, and microscopic government insensitives to buy an ev. So you cannot ev uptake from nothing, because there's nothing here

You're not going on a trip around the world in this car. It's just a small city car, mainly for commuting if you do that at all.
