For 2016 Ford refreshed the Explorer 3-row crossover with a re-styled interior, a new exterior look and some new engines under the hood for good measure. Thankfully Ford didn't change the Explorer's main selling points: an enormous cargo area, comfortable seats, class leading legroom, powerful engines and luxury features you can't find in the competition.

I hate that most manufacturer's don't offer the rear liftgate glass opening, a great feature and puts the U in utility. Also most should remain rear wheel bias verses FWD as most are AWD anyways and having a RWD platform eases maintenance makes a stronger platform and handles and rides better, hence why true sport cars and luxury vehicles are RWD bias is a testament to that.

Laughable that the Ford Explorer would be good at anything.

Your video reviews are the most thorough. Only one beef. You talk so fast I have to keep replaying some parts on points of interest. Regardless you provide a really great overview on the mechanics. The vehicle comparisons were pure genius. Keep up the great work!

Rented one this weekend. Very impressive styling inside and out. Ac seats is a nice touch. Not a fan of how it drives and could not get comfortable with the driving position. Couldn’t figure out how to block the glass roof either.

Alex. I am curious if you would remember, when you put down the 3rd roll seats, do you still have that little 8-9inches dip available for small storage?

Ford needs to come up with its original design language. They copy Aston Martin for the cars. Land Rover for SUVs? Cmon now Ford. You invented the car 🚗! How’re you so behind?

Too bad they don't have a hybrid version of this, something like the Chevy Volt.

I've never heard of this ALEX ON AUTOS bud but it ain't half bad. Very professional and kept my interest. Might want to clarify though that 0-60 times don't tell the whole story, the Toyota and Honda V6s have pitiful torque while the Explorer's 3.5 Ecoboost can accelerate with authority at any speed and tow infinitely better. Also you should get rid of the "reliability reputation" bullshit, that is a complete farce. Honda's "reliability reputation" should actually be "con" instead of "pro"; They have been experiencing significant transmission issues with the new pilot as well as a ton of other failures; a quick search of the Pilot/MDX forums is eye opening. Honda quality is so bad that Car & Driver had to have the transmission replaced on their press vehicle Pilot, and they're still having problems!!

Alex your reviews are just great! If I may suggest a little addition in your reviews I find important to me in my wheels? How about inclusion of crash test (IIHS) and accident avoidance features in your reviews?

Great review, Alex. The one thing I don't like about the Explorer
is the water pump design flaw on the v6. The pump is not mounted outside the
engine - it's buried inside, and when the pump starts to leak, the
coolant runs into the oil pan. You don't know it's leaking until it's too late
because there is no coolant on the ground. Coolant in the oil will destroy the
engine, requiring an engine replacement. To be pro-active and change the pump before
it fails will cost at least $2500, because the best way to access it is to
remove the engine from the vehicle. While it's out, the timing chain should be
replaced (it stretches), chain guides and cam phasers should also be changed.

      No Thanks!

No Alex, the cx-9 have got a 2.5 liter turbo engine, not a 2.3. The ford however got a 2.3 as an option.

People are just so obsessed with 0-60mph times! Guess you drag race the 3-row SUVs on the road...what I don't get is that all the other vehicles competing within the same segment are just bet 0.5-1.5 secs off of each other which is insignificant but hey people buy vehicles based on 0-60 times!
