      I agree that push rods are durable, they are easier to maintain too. My Buell XB12R has a push rod engine. But timing chains do not drive the whole weight of the motorcycle, they synchronize the opening and closing of the intake and exhaust valves. If you want more power out of a small displacement, you need to open and close the valves faster, for higher RPMs. Push rods cannot do this as fast as chains. That is why most modern bikes and Superbikes have DOHC with timing chains. With current technology, timing chain + DOHC mechanisms are almost indestructible.
