Euro NCAP released the first results of rear-end crash avoidance systems tested against the upcoming 2014 rating protocol. Real world claims data suggest that Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) systems can reduce rear end crashes by one quarter or more and lead to a significant reduction of injuries. As from January 2014, Euro NCAP will in its rating scheme give credit to vehicle manufacturers that equip their models with robust forward collision warning and/or automatic braking technology.

Good work, but your car is easy to detect because it is white with visible lights. Maybe new recommendation should be that all cars have special marking on back which will be easier to track by cameras?

Toxic exposure to radar frequencies does not make safety.
Asbestos was used to make buildings fire safe while it was known to cause respiratory disease and now we have crash safety at the expense of the bodies nervous system.

Laser, great. Sonic, fine. Cameras, excellent but radar no thanks.

That is all nice but I can't express how disappointed I am that Euro NCAP refused to do small overlap crash tests ... nowadays every established car manufactures can do car which passes euro NCAP barrier crash tests with good results so it should be obvious to raise the bar.  I believe that there is a strong pressure from the manufactures not to introduce more difficult crash test and, instead, they prefer to push the electronic gadgets which buyers have to tick when buying a new car hence it is not inflating a base price of a car as the augmented crumple zones would.

Well it would be interesting to see how this system works if you overtake somebody and drive to close to car in front or in some traffic hours when you change lanes.
And then of course if some dirty, snow, junk etc. hit sensors.
Otherwise cool feature until the guy behind you also have one :D

this is just great, imagine - you're such a lo-life and you have all theese traction etc controls on, you're driving in city, 50 km/h in front of me, how about, it's intense hours and we're 10 meters apart (on dry asphalth stoping to 0km/h is about 15m), right in front of you. there's a broken down car, you, being a idiot behind the wheel, keep on driving, system brakes for you, everythings nice. except, that me, in my vectra a, "with" ABS, I'll be the one, who pays you for your crashed back. :(

Great stuff... I kinda like this technology, it doesn't seem that intrusive as I expected it was, I like it and I hope my next car will have it!

It's all well and good, until the car behind you doesn't have AEB and gives you whiplash.
I hope this will be standard for every new car very very soon!
