I had a bias towards the Yamaha XSR700 over this, until I realised that I honestly don’t like either of them stock standard. So it’s best for me to just buy whichever is better build quality, because after modifications it’ll end up looking completely different anyways. I believe both frames could achieve a very similar outcome.

I've had my black one for a week. Excellent in the wet. Which is fortunate. Looking forward to 2 days of summer. Love the quickshifter, the slipper clutch, the suspension and the tyres are better than I thought they'd be. I traded my Tracer 700 in for it. More engaging, much more fun and better quality. I won't revert to bikes that are designed for the ease of smoking a pipe on the move.

Awesome bike and great review. I was hell bent on the CB500F and then blam this shows up. Do the extra 150cc and 2 cylinders make this a poor choice for a beginner?

Jambi nah mate the $10k price tag makes it a bad beginner bike. I want this bike but definitely not as a beginner bike this has 100hp compared to the Kawasaki z650 has 60hp and it’s $7000. But man if this gets ur dick hard buy it. It’s sexy af

When my CRF 1000 was in for the 24000km service, the garage gave me a brand new CB650R - which is now, six weeks later, a new addition to my stable. She is so much fun to ride and a fun complement to the africa twin

From previous review years it looks like they made the mirrors stick out more to the sides. I thought the R had the fairings and the F is the naked bike?

One can have same "fun" riding absolutely any bike - on this road and and the way you ride it - in a straight line.
This bike should be doing sharp bands - fast, accellerations.....
You - just go forward - sloooowly !
The previous CB650F had a slightly softer front, simpler display, but was generally better made.

I’m in my early 20’s is it weird that I prefer a naked sport bike? 🤔
Btw mate if you still have the bike, they’re doing a re-call on them so just send it to me and i’ll re-send it back for you 😘

Hope to pass my DAS soon . Currently I'm poodling around on the baby of this range, a CB125R. If I do pass I don't know whether to get one of these or maybe a Suzuki SV650, Yamaha MT-07 or maybe even a Triumph Street Twin . Have you ridden any of those ? Also , yes, I'd get this Honda in the dark metallic red , just like my CB125R , Silver is a bit too camouflaged for me, it's good to be seen when on a bike.

Also I do prefer the look of this Honda to the Suzuki SV650 or Yamaha MT-07, but then the SV is about £1500 less. Oh decisions ...

@Gary Sutherland I'm probably going to get a Triumph Speed Twin, because I'm in the prime age demographic for one of those ! Also I did pass my Mod2 back about 2 months ago :)

I have test ridden it and and I was soo disappointed with engine lacking power and bicycle-like breaks. My old SV650 was way way better. The only thing I really liked about it was the looks.

Hello Mr Fish - great review as usual but would this bike be appropriate for a first time newly passed rider? Given that it is a 4 cylinder bike with nearly 100 bhp a bit unsure.

Went for a test ride. Power is very manageable and even though the fully wet weight is 202kg, it is very controllable and turns into corners easily. Slow speed manoeuvres easy to do. Order placed in 'Red'. Hope this helps other new riders with full license who are considering.
