Watch the CAR video review of the all-new fourth generation Suzuki Jimny – one of the most rugged and dependable 4x4s currently on sale.

In this short review, CAR Magazine Contributor James Dennison looks at the Jimny’s performance both on- and off-road as well as how its rugged interior stacks up in 2018. A worthy continuation of the Jimny family?

Given that the new Defender starts at around £40,000 I can see this being the new Series Landy...

Who the Hell wants or needs anything digital?! I wouldn't even want the screen on the dash, or cloth seats. I like the simplicity of my 87 Samurai because it has very little electronic B.S. , and cleaning vinyl not cloth is what you want in a 4 wheel drive. If 90 mph isn't fast enough for a person something is real wrong.

The interior is not cheap but easy to clean after off roading you do not want any soft touch that goes sticky a few years later as in the Ferraris, costing $$$$ to replace

The title should read : “...replacement for half a Defender...” which is what you’d get for the price of a Jimny.

You got it wrong it's more like a cross between a jimny and a Mk 1 suzuki vitara,, and they were not appreciated until they were obsolete,,

A replacement for the Land Rover Defender, not as it is with a five speed gearbox and a tiny 1500cc petrol engine. But put a 1500cc turbo diesel in it, and a six speed box, then yes it could be a replacement for the LR Defender.

I drove the same 96 Disco for twenty years. We went every where in it, all over Europe, the kids grew up in it, 200k miles, no major work, just 3 sets of tyres and brake pads, never let me down. I miss her so much. LR stopped making vehicles like that 10 years ago, can she be replaced? The wife has a new Vitara, I'm going to get a Jimney.

Having worked for two years in automotive detailing, I will say that most of the "desired" soft touch plastics really get quiet ugly after several years. The hard, textured plastic of the Jimny is likely going to be looking fine for over a decade, which is good, because that seems to be how people use Jimny's. Buy them, beat the piss out of them for decades until the bottom rots out.

Also appreciate that there is minimal gloss plastic, and especially no chromed plastic trim bits in the cabin, as that shit hurts when the sun reflects off of it into your eyes. Get enough of that glare from other cars on the road, I really don't need more coming from inside my own vehicle.

Now, if only we could get them here in North America.

Glad to see i'm not the only one who doesn't like chrome trims. Some people like them, I just find it gaudy.

Just order one for the wife today, great car fully loaded for 18k is the bargain of the century. It will embarrass 4x4's 5 times the cost off road, and all in black just looks bitching the coolest looking car i have seen in decades.
