Hyundai Kona 1.6T Ultimate Test Drive, presented by autoTRADER.ca.

In this video, Justin Pritchard takes the all-new, crazy-popular Hyundai Kona 1.6T Ultimate crossover for a winter test-drive. The AWD system has a workout, we see an odor-related complaint, there's some slow-motion traction testing, and it's a real good time.

The 2019 Hyundai Kona is Canada's best-selling, all-new vehicle, and Justin thinks he's figured out why.

I have the Limited FWD as I don't need the AWD here in NJ where I drive. Since my interior has the gray leather seats, my car interior is two-toned (black and dark gray) so it's not as monotonous looking as the car in your video. I am happy with the 1.6T and you can really feel the difference between the turbo and the 2.0L non-turbo in the lower models, which I tested drove before taking delivery on the Limited version.

I really want to buy this car, but when I told the Portuguese side of my family I wanted to buy a Kona they couldn’t stop laughing and my father actually fell off his chair and started having chest pains. The jokes were non-stop as well as the teasing. They changed the name for the Portuguese speaking market ... as you can imagine a car called “The Pussy” is going to be a severe drawback.

Who's driving it and who's paying for it? Your money, your car! This is what I've told my family when I said I'm getting a smaller car than my previous 2016 Elantra sedan.

Kona receives a few updates for 2019. The upper two trims now have soft touch materials on the dash and other bits. In addition, Hyundai added forward collision mitigation as a standard feature for 2019.

Kona is also Kelly Blue Books 'best buy' in the subcompact SUV category...

Just bought the 2019 Kona SEL with Tech Package in white for my daughter last week. She absolutely loves it and as a parent, very glad it comes with all the safety features for her! It’s a fun, peppy car to drive and comes with decent room and cargo room for the size and price!

I was waiting for the SEL w/Tech last November and when there weren't any in the US, I discovered my dealer had the Limited in stock. My new Kona is the color and features that I wanted (dark gray). For $2000 more, I have the SEL Tech + turbo and leather seats. Enjoy the Kona!!! I love mine.

I bought the green one with matching green seatbelts at no extra cost, the Koreans should teach the Italians how to design a good looking car. I bet a lot of car makers are going to copy this design for their cars

      MPG?
      Price?

I love my 1st Hyundai 2012 Veloster that has impressive MPG and unique fun drive.
You are right if Hyundai need to do better job in noisy insulation, other than that it is one of the best car I can find with a reasonable price and excellent tech. And service.

Hmmm My next car , hope I can get Kona EV 64kwh...
It is hard to get in usa...

I've done quite a bit of research on different EVs. it seems like the Kona Electric is a clear winner. I actually cancelled my Model 3 reservation for the Kona EV (which I'm told I'll be picking up next month).

Yes, a foot shorter than my previous Elantras -- inside same size actually. If you think Kona is small, wait until you see the new "Mini-Kona" that Hyundai is bringing out next year which will be even smaller than the Kona. A sub-sub compact CUV?

I've driven Subarus for decades before switching to Hyundai. Where I live and drive, I just don't need the AWD. Crosstrek is a fine vehicle but I like that the Kona has more "pizzaz" and most of the safety features standard in even the base cars.

Apologies, has standard roof rack. Couple other details are unrefined gear shifts, and stiff bumpy ride compared to Honda HRV and Crosstrek

    • Brad Creber
Brad Creber In reply to JBML007

Crosstrek blows all of the competition away in its class. From best AWD system and the X-Mode feature which really works getting you out of deep snow, mud and sand. Better quality interior, no plastics like the Kona which is all over in this interior. Much better resale value of any of them. That includes the Mazda CX3. After 4yrs or 80,000kms you will get at least $1,000 more for the Crosstrek than the CX-3. Standard torque vectoring in the Crosstrek. 5 star plus IIHS safety tests rating. Much more space and standard roof rack. It's also the only vehicle in its class that can tow. 1500lbs. None of the other manufacturers recommend towing anything behind their subcompact models. Plus, it's got real off road capabilities. I'd be surprised if they are even making the Kona in 5 or 10 years. Nice little SUV but doesn't come close to Crosstrek, or quality of the Honda HRV, Mazda CX3 and Toyota CH-R which is only offered in FWD. Crosstrek has a larger engine than the base Kona, Honda, Mazda, and Toyota. They've got a small 1.6 turbo version but they have been known to be problematic in the small variant turbos. It's also not cheap either. Over $32k for the top of the line. Crosstrek has been so popular for its 2019 model they had a 3 month waiting list in Ontario Canada
