A CSX manifest dynamics to a stop to investigate this major GE locomotive failure in Lowell, IN. As usual, the older and more reliable EMD engine behind it seems to be doing all the work. That SD60 sure sounds sweet in full dynamic!

Everyone is so judgmental, It’s not the damn engines fault more like the lack of maintenance and abuse of Ge’s for their power SO STOP HATING on one another and learn how to F’ing get along and work together. Haters really piss me off i love GE but i have never said some stupid BS about EMD’s so go on somewhere with that garbage judgment and false pride A H’s

Black smoke, maybe broken injector? turbo charger smoke is white, because it is engine oil burn. Diesel burn s black smoke.

Stop the senceless war between GE and EMD fans; both are good locomotive builders ! But it would be very sinful to raise the maintenance quality at many american railroads to get better results cause some small ones like ME, SMS railservices or A&M showing how to get reliability from locomotive oldtimers too when practicing a meticulous maintenance.

There's nothing wrong with this locomotive. It was built in the 90's before they had all the emissions crap on them. Diesels just smoke naturally.

wonder if the videographer has ever seen an Alco - some of them I've seen (in Australia) give a steam engine a run for its money, smoke-wise! And that's when they're running well, too!.

well at least they stopped. but really I see all these videos of locomotives with blown turbochargers and the engineer and conductor just keep on going like nothing is happening, doesn't that break the locomotive even more?

British Rail had 2 classes that gave huge turbo problems. The class 28 used Crossley 2 stroke engines, the class 17 2 quick running Paxmans per loco. Barrow depot discovered that if they cleaned out the Class 28's exhaust silencer and turbo, then the tendency for the silencer to explode was reduced. When the turbos of class 17 received the same treatment, one of the most unreliable locos ever built became no worse than most. Sadly though, this was discovered during the run down to withdrawal of both classes. What might have been.....

Certainly the surviving class 17 still benefits from this preventative maintenance. Maybe when it runs, so will the surviving class 28?

Hey at least the AC44CWs FDL engine is still kinda sorta barely working! This GE needs a LOT OF WORK DONE TO IT! LIKE RE- PE- POWER IT WITH AN EMD 710 V16!

I'm with ya. The truth is, I was a huge EMD fan. In particular so many of us felt GM did a far better job in after market support and caring about providing parts and materials for used power than GE. All that changed a few years ago. Now Class I roads in North America much prefer GE. Their equipment is amazing. Peace brutha

That's running pretty rich there. I'm no American but that EMD engine at least sounds sweet. General Electric should really revise their turbocharging solutions by the look of it.

I see no problem with the GE locomotive at all. The sound is quite horrid on the video and in fact the video is not very good either. Running, trotting or walking along trying to film - very bad idea. I agree with others that this is a very normal GE when lugging at low speed.
