I have a 17 f-150 XLT sport edition with the second gen 3.5L ecoboost with the 10 speed with comes with the 302A package plus it has the under chassis protection that you get with the FX4. It came with Four Wind Spray-in bed liner, lockable anchor mounts, LED bed lighting, and lockable tail gate. Plus this video wasn't long enough because you skipped a few things starting at the Lariat.

+gritter781 gritter. A good business plan that Chrysler has been using for decades....only their trucks are scrap at 50,000 miles!

gritter781 In reply to jim carson

+chad haire so by your theory, Ford figured they would make a $50k truck that would only be good for scrap metal beyond 100k miles. Sounds like a solid business plan, lol.

    • chad haire
chad haire In reply to jim carson

+gritter781 gritter. There is no maintenance that is going to make the Ecoboost system last longer. The basic V-6 truck with 6-speed is bullet proof, but the Eco engines are a crap shoot. Problem is when they show problems the dealer can't fix if under warranty, then after warranty, they just replace everything and bankrupt you. i dont think the Ford engineers intended the owners to keep these beyond 100K miles. But if you found a good one, so be it. Unless I am hauling or towing a lot, I prefer the Honda Ridgeline....good for 300,000 miles easy.

+chad haire did you not actually read my comment? I literally drive an EB (although mine is a 3.5) and have over 100k miles on it. Never had a single issue... not even one. I guess I'm just "lucky". Or maybe I get the reliability that thousands of others have also experienced with proper maintenance. You know, precisely what I described.

I see you have *driven* a slew of vehicles, congrats. I'm speaking from the point of view of actual long-term ownership.

+gritter781 gritter---I suggest you see my youtube truck videos--I have driven all these. The 2.7 eco is a great engine--when new--but getting 100K miles off one without a $4,000 repair bill is luck.

Ram now has the best trucks and trim offerings.

Ford has stupidly ignored what Crysler has been doing with Dodge trucks and then the creation of the Ram brand focused purely on trucks.

Now electric trucks are coming, and Ford has only recently started developing a E-truck.

WTF? With the restrictions on performance and reliability with Emissions controls on diesel towers, electric vehicles was always a viable power option for the Super Duty F-series.

Ford is doing catch up as it has had it too easy for the last 3 decades.

West World In reply to West World

+gritter781 I am a Ford guy -- the cars not the trucks. I have had no interest in the trucks until recently.

I've learned what Ford has been doing the last 30 years making THEIR trucks, THEIR catering for their dealerships, and fortunate enough to be competing the GM twins and Dodge Trucks with inbred quality issues.

The GM Twins are still the GM twins.

      Dodge Trucsk is no more.

Ram is pure a truck maker, competing with the Ford & GM that have dominated the market.

Ram is slowly but sure improving the quality of it ;product, listening to it's custormers, targeting the first time truck or SUV buyer, and making Ford, GMC & Chevy guys think twice about new truck buy.

Ram is getting better and better every year ... making Trucks .... that are its core business.

+NSNorfolk NSN: Yeah I should have said $$ was worth more back then--slipped up. AS far as buying a 2 year old that works on a car, but not a truck as they always seem to ask as much as new. New you can get a $10K rebate. Also the problem is not people buying stupid expensive cars..problem is the system is screwed. Back in the 60's and 70's, to buy a car you had to have 20% down payment or no deal and pay 36 months or no deal. No 0% down, 84 month payments, or other crap. So now the government prints all this money, the bank gives 7 year payments, and the car makers jack the price. Same with home loans that caused the economic meltdown of 2008, and now college student loans with free money to anyone which is a trap. It is all about making economic slaves, and it worked. Start at age 18, and never pay off the banks until age 65, and suffer on madicare until you die at age 85. If you can't put 20% down or pay off in 48 months, DONT BUY!

@ chad haire no, you mean’t to say, the USD was worth 2X in 1999 v/s today. I do quite well as an RF Engineer and LCDR in the USCGR and even a discounted F-150 XLT and trade with positive equity means nearly $700 car payments. That is why (if you watch the financials, do you?) delinquencies, over 90 days past due, are the highest since 2012 and are approaching 8 million. Why? People are buying stupid expensive cars. Best to buy one 2 years old and let the other guy take the depreciation hit.

+NSNorfolk 1999? Come on..back in 1999 the dollar was worth half what it is now. Inflation. For $28K you can't get much of a Toyota....a Tacoma with 4 cylinder and am radio is $25,000. $28k for a full size with big V6 is a deal

    • NSNorfolk
      NSNorfolk In reply to NSNorfolk

@+chad haire Maybe so. $28K is a bit more than I paid for my 1999 Dodge/Cummins loaded up brand new. I can't wrap my arms around paying that much for anyone's 1/2 ton truck.

I wish companies would go back to a simple truck in the 25k range. Small, 4x4 ,locking diff's, no carpet, no moonroof etc. All these tech and comfort features are all pointless. Especially that big ass moonroof that will leak outside of warranty and be very expensive to repair.

Negative I looked. The smallest truck in current production is the Nissan frontier which is still a fairly large mid size truck. I ended up settling on the last year of production of the small ford rangers which was a 2011 model year. The other one I looked at was the old 80's Yota's with the bomb proof 22RE motor.

Expansion and contraction wreak havoc on them. Motors can go out and are very expensive to repair. Do not hold up well when heavy off roading. No thanks on the vape vent. If you want one more power to ya not for me.

Why would the roof leak if the roof won't rust? I'm sure the rubber seals would last more than a few years and even if they didn't, I cant imagine them being all that expensive to replace.

They do sell trucks like that in the low trim levels. I believe they are typically ordered and sell quite a few. If you look at large city or company work trucks they have none of the features you just listed. With rubber floors, standard radio, ECT. I would contact Ford for more information on ordering one or locating a place to buy one.

All those Techs in the truck to justify a 60-80k price tag is bonkers to me.I guarantee if one of the the big 3 truck producers (even toyota) were to make a 20-25k truck that is small,4x4 and no carpet they would sell better than their main trucks due to companies needing vehicles for their fleet and just overall any sane person who isnt willing to give 46k for a baseline f-150

For a young adult like myself, STX was the way to go. Most bang for my buck. I would love to have a higher trim someday but really the STX has everything I needed. Sync 3 comes in handy with Apple car play, I have my 4-wheel drive (very needed where I live) and all the space in the world for hauling stuff. And you can’t go wrong with that more aggressive sport appearance ;)
