General Motors has taken their Voltec plug-in hybrid technology that was first seen in the Chevrolet Volt and headed upmarket with the Cadillac ELR coupe. With a full driving range of 340 miles between its 16.5kWh lithium-ion battery pack and 1.4-liter,gas-powered generator (or 37 miles on electricity only), the ELR offers an alternative to premium all-electric offerings like the Tesla Model S to buyers who're concerned about range limitations and charging times.

Recently we got a chance to get up close and personal with the ELR, providing us a chance to capture an in-depth look at the sights, sounds, and driving manners of the new coupe. So, does this new high tech Cadillac live up to its $82,135 price tag?

Stop using your turn signal for no reason. You only use them when there are cars behind you. There was no one behind you every time. Annoying.

I have this car and a Volt. Love them both, no complaints and no repairs needed. Has the Volt since 2012 and the ELR for a few weeks..
2 totally different cars, the Volt does not even come close to the ELR.

Beautiful car, quiet design! IdK why they didn't continue the model, put a gas V6 in & call it, "Eldorado?" They could've had success with that ...and I'm not even on the committee LoL!

Very nice, smooth & quiet. The only sounds you hear are turn signals & the tires rolling over EVERY tar line & crack in the road? Maybe they should do something about those tires for a base $76,000 MSRP?

It is kind-of different seeing a Winding Road for Drivers video without an exhaust note present.

It's funny though, even though I love a car with a great sounding exhaust system, I also really appreciate the silence of an electric car and the unobstructed whooshing of cutting through the wind.

It is overpriced, but the people who are going to buy it, are buying it because it's a cadillac.

its now 2018, few years after debut ELR. Price situation has flip flop. a used 2014 ELR is at $27,000 while 2013 model S is at 45-50,000 !

Yeah…for that kind of money, I'd probably go with the far more practical (in terms of space) Tesla. Neat video, though!

Personally, I'd go with the Volt. For 34k, you get the same electric range and almost the same features. Also with that you get extra space in the back!

:)) Maybe you should look closely :D
For the same money if you want a hybrid like the ELR you can get the 3 series hybrid or if you want a pure electric and probably the best electric car right now check Tesla Model S, compared to this, worth every money and doesn`t need to invest more money in it because the maintenance is allmost none, even Jay Leno said it and Tesla builded superchargers and is keep building them at every 150 miles between. Superchargers are basicly free stations where you can charge your Tesla in 30 minutes.

And the funny part is that Tesla is at the same price at this or if you go for the 60kw model with 210 miles of real range (230 rated) is 10k less than the ELR and you have 8 years of waranty on the Tesla.

For 75k you can buy a nice Tesla Model S :)
More power, faster, better range, beatifull and doesn`t make that 4 cylinder noise.
And you get free electricity with Tesla superchargers that btw charges your car 100% in just 1 hour or 150 miles in 20 minutes ...
ELR is overpriced by a lot i think.

And let`s not talk about Tesla`s waranty .. 8 years..

That I agree. The fact that after buying this car you can basically drive it completely free across the country is more than amazing. Never before has a car allowed for it's owner to drive it without worry about paying for fuel or electricity. That's just awesome !
