There is a lot of talk these days about high-performance SUVs, and more often than not, that's really all it is -- talk. The 2016 Porsche Cayenne is clearly an exception. This SUV backs up the talk, and the latest Cayenne has more under the hood than ever before. Even Porsche sports-car enthusiasts are forced to admit that the Cayenne has unbelievable all-around capability. Here are five reasons to buy the amazing Cayenne.
Comprehensive Engine Lineup
As far as engine performance, the Cayenne has something to offer for every type of driver. Need fuel efficiency? The turbodiesel V6 returns a remarkable 29 miles per gallon on the highway. How about going 0 to 60 mph in just 5.2 seconds? That's what the Cayenne S model delivers with its twin-turbo V6. For just flat out top-of-the-line acceleration, the Cayenne Turbo boasts an super refined V8 that hits 60 mph in about 4 seconds flat. Not to mention, the plug-in hybrid Cayenne offers 20 miles of pure electric range.
Sports-Car Handling
You have to experience the Cayenne for yourself to truly appreciate its cornering capability. Crossovers are generally heavier and taller than normal cars, but this Porsche feels more like a hatchback when putting the pedal to the metal. The steering is very responsive, and there's not much body roll. An added bonus is its standard all-wheel drive, which is ready for any terrain or element, all year round. If any crossover deserves to wear the Porsche crest, you're looking at it (and yes, that includes the Cayenne's lesser sibling, the Audi-derived Macan).
Luxury-Car Composure
When a vehicle handles as well as the Cayenne, you usually have to live with a stiff ride. But Porsche doesn't make you choose. Now don't get us wrong, the Cayenne does feels firm, but it's never harsh -- no matter how rough the surface is. You can feel the sophisticated suspension soak up bumps as you ride through town. Luxury-car fans will feel right at home.
Amazing Versatility
Like every crossover, the Cayenne is way more versatile than just about any sedan. By the numbers, you get about 24 cu ft. behind the rear seats, and that expands to 63 cu ft. with the rear seatbacks folded flat. Not to mention, the Cayenne can also tow up to 7,716 pounds, which is as much as some heavy duty pickups. Crossovers typically struggle to tow even half that much, so the Cayenne really gives you extra capability here.
Features Galore
The Cayenne's button-rich dashboard is exactly what it suggests, access to tons of features. Standard perks include 10-speaker audio and a 7-inch touchscreen with navigation. Porsche also provides leather upholstery and a heated steering wheel, and we haven't even gotten into Porsche's legendary options menu. How about body-color seat belts? Or leather trim on practically every interior surface? When you visit your Porsche dealer it's almost certain that if you can dream it up, they can probably make it happen.
Autotrader Says:
The 2016 Porsche Cayenne combines luxury, versatility and performance like no other SUV on the planet. If you are shopping in this luxury segment, this Porsche can do it all.

The base v6 is a complete dog. Great for leisure trips to grocery store. Base model is also all plastic inside. Pretty underwhelming.

I like the Cayenne, but when I sat in it at the dealership it felt very high, as if i was almost sitting in a van. However, I liked how I felt sitting in the Macan. Not too high and not too low. I also feel like the Cayenne looks too family looking for a single guy. Still haven't decided. I also prefer the taillights of the Cayenne than the Macan, but really like the headlights of the Macan rather than the Cayenne :/
