This video was shot at the #GRIDLIFE Motorsports and Music Festival South from Road Atlanta! For more information about #GRIDLIFE events check out

The all new Civic Type R is the fastest front-drive Honda ever, with a turbocharged 2.0L engine making 306 HP to the front wheels. It has a track-spec suspension, six-speed manual transmission, aerodynamic improvements, bucket seats, and trim pieces to help the Type R stand out from more pedestrian Civic's.
Test notes:
1) The heat had to be run on full blast during the entire duration of this video to prevent overheating
2) A full tank of fuel lasts 16 laps around Road Atlanta
3) Matt's fastest lap was a 1:45.3
4) In the introduction, Matt incorrectly referred to this car as a 2007; it's obviously supposed to be 2017.

Honda of North America provided the vehicle, insurance, and a tank of fuel for this review.

Think about it: Honda puts all this go-fast stuff on this car and then offers ONLY ONLY ONLY the slowest possible transmission. WTF? I understand that some guys like to row their own, and that should be available. But there are guys to who want GO FASTER and guys who are married to girly girls who think heel-and-toe is a dance move. So why so bloody-minded about paddles?

I know no one will ever see this and this review is old. I just have to say that that is NOT a transaxle it is transverse. A transaxle uses a longitudinally mounted engine that is a TRANSVERSE transmission.

I'm on my 3rd wrx and have NO plans of switching to Civic, But I appreciate the Type R more then many other sports compacts for some reason and the Ride is great. It does seem more matured, and evolved. Great video man.

I love Honda and will always enjoy driving it. No matter 1.4 from 98' or Turbo Type R. However my daily heart belongs to Focus RS. I absolutely love the 4wd. So much control and that civilized, pleasant sounding interior. Hard to beat that. *crackles*

Type R wasn't a JDM only car... It was available in Australia also. Typical Matt Farah. You know nothing Matt Farah (Read that like Game of Thrones Jon Snow).

It's so good on the street. I popped to the supermarket this morning. I had the radio on, pootled along, super comfy in the default R. The clutch is light but has the right amount of feedback. The shift light will have you in 5th at about 40 miles an hour. It's just great.

Then you want to track it and it's fast. The grip in corners embarrasses faster cars. It's stable but will rotate when you want. The brakes are great. It's a hot lap marvel.

For the money it wrecks the competition. Cars like the RS3 have a gorgeous interior and way more power which will thrash the Type R on straights, but the Type R will gain back time in the corners. The lap times are far to close for this to be considered anything other than a triumph.

This car definitely has the fun and performance factor, but I wish they would have ditched the huge whale tail spoiler especially for us older drivers who wouldn’t mind having one.
