Footage of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) crash tests of the 2018 Volkswagen Atlas and the Honda Pilot.
The Honda Pilot earned the "Top Safety Pick +" rating which is the highest safety award given by the IIHS. Meanwhile, the 2018 VW Atlas fell short of this award because it's headlights were deemed poor to marginal and instead ended up with the "Top Safety Pick" rating.

The Atlas has amazing headlights what the hell are they talking about. They are LED. Brightest ones I have seen on a vehicle period??

Odd, because you can SEE both legs in the Atlas are still un-compromised and moving freely.

DOES Honda Pilot HAVE pre collision braking and active cruise control? my Passat has slammed its brakes to avoid crashes & saved my bacon a few times now.

I'd rather drive cars from an honest and reliable car manufacturer, not a cheesy advertising firm that happen to sell cars full of cheat and lies. So happy to see the Honda also is built with engineering superiority and got the best safety rating.

You do know that Honda owns Takata and that Takata Airbags have killed and injured more people than the so called VW Diesel scandal.

I'm a huge Volkswagen guy but to be honest I'd have to go with the pilot, the dummy seemed to be more controlled in the collision and it didn't seem to be as violent, also the pilot seems to be made much better than the atlas, Volkswagen is falling behind and there not what they used to be (a premium car company) I was very excited when the atlas came out but it was a huge let down to me, the ride wasn't as smooth as I had hoped for and there were far to many hard materials and plastics, im not sure if the vehicle i test drive was just a bad apple or what but I was extremely disappointed with it, i expect much better from a "german" auto manufacturer

Julian ......the same with Honda. Honda is no longer the reliable brand that use to be. Rigth now they have serious problems of oil dilution with the 1.5 l turbo motor Honda CRV and electronic problems with the oddisey and accord. I dont know if any owner of the 2019 HONDA PILOT have some of these problems but....honda no longer have my attention.

Andre Schrobback These standards aren't "government". IIHS is a non profit organization. They use data from decades of accidents to determine what tests to do and at what speeds. Small overlap accidents are most likely to happen on city streets and intersections, not on the freeway. The NHTSA is copying their methods and adding on to it. They know what they are doing.

Unfortunately its other way around , due to the moving steering wheel the head wasn't controlled while following in to the Airbag. This is a big issue with a lot of cars! For me the more interesting question is the speed! 40mph is this your daily speed on the road or highway ? So what can these cars do once you go faster in an event of an accident. We all just rate our cars by these standards (done by a government ) Whats happen if we do these test with a speed of 70 mph? That's the question you should ask ........
