Porsche 956 World Record Nurburgring Lap | On Board | Set In 1983

The Porsche 956 was a Group C sports-prototype racing car designed by Norbert Singer and built by Porsche in 1982 for the FIA World Sportscar Championship. It was later upgraded to the 956B in 1984. Driven by Stefan Bellof in 1983, this car holds the all-time record for the fastest vehicle ever to lap the famed Nürburgring Nordschleife, completing the 20.832 km (12.93 mi) circuit in 6:11.13 during qualifying for the 1000 km Sports Car race.

On May 28th 1983, a 25 year old German Racing driver named Stefan Bellof drove a Porsche 956 around the Nürburgring Nordschliefe in 6:11.13, a record that stands to this day, and one that doesn't look like it'll ever be beaten.

I wish to know what is the emotional thoughts and feelings he got inside his mind in every corner and straight lines while this 10 min when he drove that 956 again in nurburgring after 30 yrs..taking this corner and looking at that corner and talking to himself I remember this curve and that curve brings him back to the glory days..

oh and to the poster: reported for misleading title, this onbaord has nothing to do with Bellof, or the record run. It's a similar car (not all 956s are the same, just ask all the private teams running against Works Porsches...), that's all.

@none actually it's the same track, the difference is 200 meters. Never will cease to amaze me, how idiots talk out of their ass. There are differences in terms of better road grip etc though... not to mention the 919 evo isn't legal in ANY race class, Bellof's record was done under racing conditions (the 6:11 was done in qualifying or training, I believe, but he also drove the fastest lap during a race the next day, shortly before wrecking) with a legal car, no electronic helpers (Not even power steering) AND with lots of other cars on the track.

what most people dont get about the record broken these days with the 919 evo and bellofs 956 .....
the record from bellof was some 35 years ago .,....even tires are evolving easily 20 seconds laptme down !
stefan ( derek in this case ) has about 30-40 % off the lap only one hand at the steering wheel , left foot braking was not really possible , left foot on or standby clutch , right foot brake or accelarate / blipping gas while braking .
no power steering .............and the biggest point off all .....

stefans car was somehow regulated by some rules to keep the cars in an equal range .....the 919 is a showcase , with mostly banned tech .
higher bigger wing , skirts , wider tires , no air inlet regulator , carbon brakes , higher capacity Hydrid drive , not sure about active aero or chassis .

and even on the nordschleife it is almost impossible to go faster than the gt3 in a real race .
the possible lines for drivig that fast on that track leaves no room for error or overtaking ....if you watch the 24 h race then you would see that the gt3 cars , if they are fighting each other mostly overtake only on the gp track ( combinded with the Nordschleife at the 24 h race) or on the long straight .
except for passing traffic with cars in lower classes .

if you watch the 919 onboard ( wich is surreal fast ) there is no room for error passing the schwedenkreuz with more than 300 km/h .....even the straight is bumpy as hell with almost 370
there is simply no second line for another car to overtake at that speed , and not enough slow corners to beat someone on the brakes.
its more a fluent , to narrow , speed track build to the topography throug a forrest valley .

the 919 Evo's record being impressive does not make Bellof's any less impressive, but left foot braking is easily possible between corners where there is no gear change necessary.

Though, I think that Bellof's record only stood for as long as it did because for the most part noone really tried to beat it. Especially, as you said, the simple evolution of tyres knocks seconds off of a lap time.

I'm thinking Porsche would skip over this record in the 919 Evo out of respect for the late Stefan Bellof. There's Spa Francorchamps, and actually lots of classic track layouts that would be neat to bring back and dominate such as Riverside, Toronto Grand Prix, LA Grand Prix, etc. Just my two cents on this :)
