Chinese car manufacturer SAIC auto (Shanghai Automobile Industry Corporation) just acquired British bankrupt ROVER motor. After one year's preparation and research, now SAIC presented the new ROVER 75 in Chinese thriving car market in the effort to squeeze into the crowded Middle-size car niche to compete with Camery, accord, buick, passat and Jetta. ROVER 75 reborn in China with a unpredictable fate ahead. Will it restore its glory and honor in Chinese hand?

Rover 75 is now called ROEWE 750, which was mocked by FORD as "wrong way". SAIC could not acquire the brand "ROVER" because that FORD has already bought it years ago. Is it a wrong way as FORD said? you have to wait and see.

fastrover (aka ignorant shit): Thank you for your reply, albeit, still an ignorant one! You missed my point.. regardless of the name, it is being put together in the UK, at Longbridge, and therefore IS being built in the UK. This is a good thing, as it will provide much needed jobs. Which would help the UK out of the recession.. which ultimately helps YOU! If you are still not convinced, then I rest my case! If your next arguement is below par, then I won't bother even reply! Make it a good one!

Its says priced at 29KUSD's not cheap. I think that is cheap! I see a 100USD saloon as being a bit expensive. I hate cheaply priced things to be honest. I know I am paying less to a company that probably needs the money lol, like former Rover. Its just sad when companies lose touch with their market, that is the only reason why they fail.

China's economy is whats called a Communo-capitalist economy. The corporate propaganda is used to intimidate competition internationally. Odlly, China's economy is spearheaded by westerners and many people from the US, Australia, Germany etc are CEO's for these companies, using Chinese labor and resources.

there are no actual car companies owned by a UK firm any more they are all now owned by the likes of ford and volkswagen, so the actual britished owned car industry is long gone, all that remains now is the cars are being built in other countries and assembled here. Its really quite sad when you think the UK used to own three quarters of the world and now they can't even make a car from scratch. i wouldn't be suprised to see an assembled in the UK sticker on any of these cars nowadays

but in reality Great Britain produces more cars than it has ever done, even in the halcyon days of BLMC, we produce some of the must have vehicle's in the world, the Rolls Royce, Bentley, Aston Martin, Lotus we have a great British low volume sports car industry with Morgan Caterham etc and the UK is also the base for many major car company R & D centers, even the Chinese are setting up shop here in the UK, so, a the end of the day the UK car industry is in a better state than it has ever been

It is how things ARE done, i have not said at all ever that TATA is great, they do not have tonnes of money either, thats why they have borrowed over 3bn$ and are considering selling stakes in other automotive sectors of their business, i can assure you that with the debts Ford have and will continue to have over the next couple of years they need to reign in spending and get money back somewhere, buying and selling is a standard for of business these days and will continue while people will buy

Well, if you do not like it, why not look at MG7? By the way, I reply you an other day. But the comment did not show up. What make you think TATA is so great? Sure, they have money, tons of money. They do not have to face that many tough opponents in their home market as most Chinese manufacture do. So, which one need better management to survive? BMW wanted to get rid of MGR quick, they dump it. But Ford do not have to. This constant buying and selling is just not a good way to run business.

I agree, i wish i had purchased a 75 instead of the ZS i eventually bought, i think the MK2 75 is lovely, and still would have one today if they were still being built in the UK

Ignore him he has no clue what he talks about...

Th SAIC car has been significantly changed from the Rover 75 which was a class car, this has substandard plastics and the new rear end of this car is absolutely hideous

      MrBS4

I am sorry, this SAIC 750 is designed by British, and they are exact same people from Rover group whom design the 75. Your sarcasm had also point to British engineers. By the way, this is the original, SAIC has the intellectual property of 75. All you said = Rover 75 is not a British car. Although 750 has been Chineselize for Chinese market, but it still a British car. Just like Chinese spec Buicks' are so different to their North American counter part. But they are still Buicks.

i really do think you should grow up, it seems you have no clue about business and why Rover went with JLR, THINK ABOUT IT. Land ROVER, thats why Ford purchased the Rover brand a few years back from BMW, to protect the LAND ROVER brand from people (like the Chinese, and others) mis using the ROVER name and bring out cheap dangerous copies of Proper Land Rovers and other people getting confused (as some people surely would) when BMW sold MGR to the P4 they gave them over 2 dozen brands and names

Ok, now I see the update on wiki. I hope TATA will make good use of Rover instead of leave it to rust as Ford did. 3 billion for 5 brands, what a bargain. I think form now on it will be a shame for any Chinese who buying, driving and even getting a ride on a Ford's car. Steal the deal from other's hand and pass it along with other brand, that is not the way to run business. Good job, Ford! Wish you go bankrupt soon!

    • MrBS4
      MrBS4

All news website indicate the deal involve 2 brands not 5. 3 billion for 5 brands, who make this offer has to be a moron and Ford deserve to go bankrupt. No matter which 2 Chinese company going to buy MGR, Ford would use the agreement to got Rover. Cause they know it has to be a joint force to handle MGR . Once MGR is separated, one of the company is going to make up its own brand and end up taking each other out like SAIC and NAC. Brilliance was a ruin back then, they could not afford it.

as for chinese cars being safe, NOT, just type in "chinese car crash test" in the search engine on you tube and see what appears, it is quoted in te listings as "The car has no structural integrity whatsoever" and "The driver has 90% chances to die" also "Brilliant BS6. It is a 4-wheels coffin!!" and " made by paper" or maybe this one "Chinese 4WD vehicule that miserably fails. The driver has 99.9% chances to die" and thats just from teh first page, given time and funds this will improve

you are funny, for your information Jaguar and Land Rover were given in the deal ROVER, DAIMLER and LANCHESTER, thats a fact you can not deny that, it has been posted on many forums and in the press many times, LOOKS do not make a good car, you only have to look at the lastest Rolls Royces for that, awful to look at but amazing technology, As for Brilliance, they had there chance of a deal with MGR and blew it, they could be a better company now if they had done the deal with MG ROVER

All sources indicate Ford sold Jaguar and Land Rover to TATA, period. None of them mention anything about Rover. Think this way, Ford get rid off Jaguar along with Land Rover because Jaguar did not make a single penny for them. But Land Rover does. That's why Land Rover has to go with Jaguar. And why the hell Ford need to give Rover away to TATA when SAIC still willing to pay big bucks for it? For me, Brilliance's cars are lot better looking than its Korean counterpart, and they improving fast.

ROVER HAS GONE TO TATA.like i said weeks ago, chinese cars are at the moment RUBBISH, justlook here on you tube and you will see that, they are not the prettiest cars on the road either, hopefully with the MG7 and the Roewe 750 this will be the start of something a lot lot better from China, the Roewe 550 is looking good, and the MG3SW also looks very good (it is a British designed car after all)if a car is listed as having 4 stars or three and they advertise it as such and its false, oh dear !
