I own the Leadfoot XLT SE on the left and don't need studded tires for 1-3" of snow. Your Cadillac has got a wheel in the ditch

I don't know why they did away with the automatic setting, I have a 97 expedition with it, and it works great for winter driving, kicks in when wheels slip, kicks out when there's traction, they had it right already over 20 years ago.

I really don’t think 4A is what you think it is. I’m pretty sure it just means 4 Auto and is in no way an actual all wheel drive system. If it has any type of torque vectoring system, I definitely wouldn’t trust it on the highway in icy conditions. If you want all wheel drive, buy something that’s all wheel drive. If you want something that’s all wheel drive with a four wheel drive option, buy an all wheel drive with locking differentials.

      I thought “2 speed transfer case” meant 4hi & 4L? Not 4A/4H

I was told not to ever use 4A.
Says it will damage your Transfer case.
And not only one dealer told me that.
      Several have.

Here in Alaska I use 4A most of the winter and have for the past 8 years (with my first and second F150 Platinums). Works very well, never have had any issue with the trucks for many thousands of miles. Only use 4H when driving in snow over 6-8 inches (or when I notice my undercarriage is dragging in the snow a bit).

My previous truck had the 4A option, loved it, used it regularly on snow/wet conditions. My new XLT doesn’t have it, I get around just fine switching from 2h to 4h as needed. At first I thought not having 4A was a deal breaker, I couldn’t be more happier with my XLT.

I live in Michigan and this week we have had about 10-12 inches of snow and wind chills down to about -30 to -35. As you might guess the roads are almost all complete ice and are very slippery. I have a 2018 f150 and I used the 4 wheel drive system making it effortless for the truck. The best part is putting the truck sideways and seeing the reaction of people sitting at traffic lights 😂
