In this video, I show you how to properly paint a wheel using spray paint. You can really get excellent results with the right preparation and a lot of patience. (FYI, if you get a little bit of over-spray on the tire, you can carefully rub it off with some sandpaper ;)

In order to get a full even coat of paint, start outside the wheel, then follow the full length of your wheel, and dont stop until you last the surface being panted

Preston Thugman looks a decent job tho... I’m going to view your follow up video, I’m thinking of giving it a go myself, the paint job the dealer did on my alloys was pretty pathetic and I just don’t have the money to have them professionally refinished right now, cheers

That's what I'm wondering now. Hmm. Guess it's easier to just put tape around it. I would too tho. Then you'd have to air it back up all that crap.

Thanks for the video. I'm willing to change my rims color. they are in perfect shape but my question is do I need to sand them? or just apply the paint on them? Do I need to use the premier ? Thanks in advance

+Justin Buice Thanks for your quick response. since they are in good shape which sandpaper do you recommend me to use? 400? I want to keep the original primer on them.

    • Justin Buice
Justin Buice In reply to z k z k danial

You need to sand them first. I would only use primer if you are sanding them down to bare metal, otherwise there is already primer on them

Best thing to do after the wheels have fully cured after a few weeks is apply a ceramic paint sealant. On all my wheels I always apply 4 coats of ceramic paint sealant to the entire wheel this will protect the wheel from light scratches and prevent tar and brake dust from sticking to the wheel. Weather it be painted, powder coated, chrome, or matte finish its the best insurance u can provide to keeping the finish looking like new. when clear coating the wheel use lacquer clear coat as this will be more durable and withstands uv damage and forms a harder bond to resist scratching and chipping better
