Just bought and had a test-drive with the new mazda 3 hatchback two days ago, it's an amazing car and the exterior as well as the interior looks soooo good in real.

Okay I’m gonna disagree with mostly everyone but I like the Elantra better Mazda looks great on the outside but I hate the dash on the inside the air vents irritates me and the knob and the small screen are not for me I like touch screen. I hate the refresh of the Elantra , they should of just kept it the same

The reason why there is no touchscreen in the Mazda is because of a common problem in the previous generation Mazda 3. The issue was that there would be "phantom touches" where the screen would go crazy and select things on its own. The screen thought it was being touched. You can read this issue on many forums and I have personally experienced this in my own Mazda 3. It is highly annoying while your car changes your music and ends your navigation route while you are driving and it dismisses your input on the screen controls. The only solution I found reading the countless fourms is to remove the screen and disconnect the "touch cable". Doing so fixes the issue permanently. This is why the new Mazda 3 does not have a touchscreen. They simply cannot figure out how to make one.

I drove a 2013 and 2016 Elantra and when the next lease was up, I sat in the 2019 Elantra. U-G-L-Y!!! Not only that, I felt cramped in the driver's seat. Goodbye Elantra. Oh, I'm now driving a 2019 Kona, which has more interior room than the Elantra. I was ready to "move up" to the SUV but didn't need a bigger car. I love my Kona. I did test drive the 2016 Mazda 3 before getting my 2nd Elantra and felt that the Mazda3 was too "basic" as all the bells and whistles (like satellite radio) required the top of the line model.

You guys really should have gotten the elantra sport as a comparison to the mazda 3. That would have been a more fair review even though the elantra sport has a bit more HP. Well, actually that shouldn't be an issue since the Mazda clearly had more HP and torque than the elantra you tested. I'm a mazda 3 owner and I love the car however I have test driven the Elantra sport and find that version to be equally enjoyable as my Mazda.
By the way I totally agree with you, I don't like the new design of the Elantra, the subtly and understated look of the previous model just looked better and the read made the newer model just look gaudy and cheap. I'm not sure how I feel about the new Mazda 3 design (I have the refreshed 2016). I think they should have went a bit more bold with the design and took more elements from the Kai design. I do like the back end better. I would say that has been the worst attribute to the mazda. They have these beautiful front ends and sides with a very pedestrian back end. It's akin to a women with big tits, a pretty face but no ass in the back. The Honda by contrast would be the women who's all ass but not much in terms of face or boobs. The elantra, at least the older model would have been the chick you normally wouldn't notice until you talk to her and once you do that's when you're pleasantly surprised. With the new model it looks like the unassuming chick in order to be noticed got botched plastic surgery.

Too bad the Mazda has such a tiny trunk (13.2 cu ft.) - the smallest in its class. Mazda interior design by Marie Kondo? Not crazy about the Elantra front end.

And how often do you use all that space? most people buy huge cars and seldom use all that space. I have the 3rd gen Mzd3 and have never ever filled the trunk, even when traveling with 4 people on board.

Mazda make better looking cars than many expensive premium products. Now only if Mazda and other car makers stop use of glossy plastic on exterior and inside, it would be so great. I have never met anyone who likes glossy shiny surfaces.
