Now that Mercedes-Benz's CLA handles entry-level duties for the tri-pointed star, the newest C-Class grows closer to its upscale stablemates and more competitive against the likes of the Audi A4, BMW 3-series, and Lexus IS. Has the C-Class become a wholly upmarket offering? KBB’s Micah Muzio finds out in this video.

Purchased one today. Had a look at 3 series, a4/a5 and c class. I just loved being inside the c class. It just felt so much more premium than the bmw and audi. Merc are light years ahead in terms of design and internal quality.

We have this product back here in India. Allow me to describe its quality. It has shoddy equipments that break down apace it still has that extortionate pricing. (Blame it on GST). I'll quicky elucidate GST. It is our taxation system. Right from its inception it has deterred buyer and potential buyers alike. Our govt believes that we undeserving of anything they offer. Maybe I am digressing from the topic at hand. It exasperates me. I can't find any plausible explanation as to why the govt has to extortionately tax a commodity that is quite common in other parts of the world.

Matt 958 not the Indians fault in USA gasoline or as we call it petrol is like 2 dollars a gallon. A gallon consists of 4 litres approx which is about 30 rs a litre whereas in India it’s 90 bucks a litre so obviously Indians want a fuel efficient car because even a fucking hatchback in India is a gas guzzler

Matt 958 In reply to Matt 958

@Vedant Taneja Actually its called unequal distribution of wealth. Politicians want to feed on the gullibilty of the masses. Employment n renumeration is a hassle in India. Good posts for fewer people. Government has also banned the use of sensors on the Indian variant. Most of the US features don't make it to India. Indians hv their mind fixated on fuel economy hence they miss the fun.

Matt 958 a commodity like this is common in rich developed nations like USA hence the amount of tax is less whereas India is a poor nation where majority people don’t pay taxes hence they’ve to make up for it by taxing the rich

Amazed at how much depreciation there is with the C-class Mercedes vehicles....I've been looking at 2016 and 2017 models with low miles - $25-28K. Question - having never owned a "luxury" car before, are maintenance costs higher? For example, what could I expect to pay for an oil change on a C-series? Or to have the A/C recharged? Same as a normal car or should I expect to get ripped off because the shop thinks I have money since I'm driving a Mercedes?

Tyler Beeson In reply to debunker300

debunker300 depends on where the vehicle is taken. I would say yes it is slightly more expensive, but C class parts aren’t too bad and since it’s MB’s most popular vehicle the parts are everywhere. Now an S class on the other hand is insane on parts just because of what it is. C’s aren’t too bad and are certainly manageable. I’d compare them parts price wise to like a Lexus or Cadillac. My family just got one of these C300 AMG Line with every option and we absolutely love it. It’s smooth, fast, and the interior is insane. My family has had MB’s for years and we currently have three. My car, an old S550 is by far the most comfortable and fast, but it’s more expensive to maintain. Hell, I cracked a wheel hitting a pothole and the dealer wanted $1400 for a new wheel. $700 for a control arm and such. Unless you have a warranty, don’t get everything fixed at a dealer. Find a good independent shop and take it there.

When I’m 50 years old, I’ll consider a Mercedes Benz. Seems like their designs are for the older generation. Even Lexus is starting to make their cars a little more youthful.
