I love how all you guys come together to make these good videos. I learned a lot from you all in Australia. I live in the states and wife is expecting so now we need an 8 seater for family trips(for me off-road don't tell her that) Here in the states gas is cheap and that V8 sounds so healthy. Looks like I'm sold on the Armada best bang for buck plus wife thinks there are sexy all that matters lol. Great videos keep up the great work. From Florida.

11:11 Most cars are over priced! You'll know if you are a good negotiator or if you buy second hand. I've managed to get a 14k discount in a 70k car and I think there was still room for more discount! Also, look at the initial price for a new Y62 vs now! They are all over priced!
      Nice video BTW :)

Both too heavy, too thirsty, too expensive and over complicated but that goes for everything these days.

These vehicles are not “trucks” stop calling them that, another dumb term from North America that has made it to our shores.

Sorry Dave for the previous comments on your other video about fuel economy, so if you leave the suspension standard will it still chew out the rear tyres?

It’s more to do with changing loads on the back axel. If you put a heap of weight on it, lifted or not you will change your tow angle, and that’s when it scrubs

Hey fellas really cool vid showing the honesty from both sides of the field.

I for one feel as though i can contribute to this video as i own a gu y61 patrol and a 2017 200 series sahara (which is what i chose over the y62).

So the gu is pretty much my off road rig... tbh there isn't much out there that's greater off road than a solid axle patrol but that's another story.
I needed something that was going to be the family car and to tow with, and do the odd ski trip so a 4wd was definitely needed.

My 2 options being a patrol owner was the y62 or the 200 series (having grown up with yotas all me life and having 5 brothers and mum n dad all driving 5 hiluxes and 2x 200 series currently not including mine.)

I found that the guys at nissan were trying to justify the fuel costs by saying that by the time you add up the extra fuel you've spent on the y62 you'd still won't be out of pocket for buying a 120k 200.

This is true, but not everyone goes a 120k 200 as there are also the 85 gxl option which you can also upgrade to leather for a few grand.

I liked the power of the patrol , didn't really mind it being a petrol as my Barra patrol is obviously petrol but i just couldn't not get myself to really love it....

To me it was like settling for that ugly girl because you know she wouldn't cheat on you or break your heart...

I just couldn't look at the y62 and honestly appreciate it in all its glory even for 70 80 odd kay as I'd still be not 100% satisfied with it.

The 200 series sahara that i purchased last year is in onyx blue and beige interior... to be quite honest i think that it would have to be the greatest colour combo toyota offers but took me 5 months to get the thing as i had to wait for toyota to build it for me.

The beige isnt very popular or suited to offroading but in fairness to us its not really an off road vehicle so i cant really comment on which ones better off road either...

I would have to agree with steve though they arent much greater in fuel economy compared to the y62 but being in the cruiser i honestly felt a sense of accomplishment.
The way the vehcile is also finished with the big 2 screens in the back and all the other gizmos it comes with i just could tell thought though pricey , if you can afford it the vehicle over all can be justified . .

The other main reason as to why i bought the 200 would have to be resale.... lets be honest, they cost a lot but i can definitely sell this thing for close to what i purchased it for in the first 3 years and then falling at a slow rate compare to the patrol or really any other car and suv...

I have a friend who purchased a new range rover for 130k 4 years ago and today its on carsales and has had not much bite at 40k...

Anyway enough of the rambling, love your channel you've earnt a new subscriber and i look forward to your future vids and collabs with old mate Steve

I have a 80 series cruiser, loaded heavy with heaps of weight and drinks like a mother. After watching this it has given me once again more peace of mind to by a cheap old modded proven model over something because it’s newer or even diesel which would have cost me an extra 10k to buy. Downside is it’s old and constantly fixing and replacing things , however taking much learning , and going off road will always cause things to break earlier and if u want reliability you replace parts just for the sake of it.

Plus side is it’s older and basic to pull apart, fix and modify , rides like a dream , I don’t care where I make new holes to mount things, heaps of experienced info on the web , cheap on parts , doesn’t drink a whole lot more than these diesels , no tire wear issues etc etc etc

In my opinion there is no easy answer , all cars are imperfect money pits that let u down and cost u money .

You just have to do your research , test drive and go with your gut and wallet in hand.

And a trustworthy mechanic, and your own eagerness to learn helps a bunch too

I do feel sorry for u guys, but both are no 4x4. They're just SUVs pretending to be 4WD!
Manufacturers bild it this way cause they know that only 10% of them "may be less" will never see dirt.
      I own a Y61 300 000 Ks, payed 5000$ and it rides like a dream as a daily and real 4WD !

I'm sorry but solid front and rear axle on coils is the way to go. And if u can get your hands on the TD42, then you are set! Even the Y60 id take anyday over the Y62. Great video. If it hasn't been done already, some more detail about ongoing maintenance costs would be good. Especially outside warranty e.g. what are the typical items that require repair / replacement (DPF, injectors, cats, fuel pumps, etc.) and the associated costs. So the idea being to get approximate whole of life costs say for 10 years or so.

I like the idea. I'm only up to 80k in my Y62 so haven't really seen a lot yet. Looks like I have a lazy air/fuel sensor in the exhaust. Otherwise it has just been the standard services so far. Have been out of warranty for a year now, and even inside warranty, the only thing I had done was a new steering wheel and the original one had some premature wear marks. Not sure if the 200 side has more to tell?
