You may have noticed that, on occasion, your 2019 Jeep Cherokee shuts off while driving--specifically, when you come to a stop for a few moments. This is start stop technology, a fuel economy feature designed to promote fuel efficiency and improve gas mileage. The feature uses an autostop and autostart/restart feature to cuts down on gas consumption while idling at a stop.

So glad I found this as I was just going Thursday to buy a New Jeep Cherokee. Now that I know I cannot turn off that function I will NOT be buying another Jeep. A little sad about it but I hate that feature in a car. Mopar..you need to fix it where it can be turned off or risk losing customers! I will gladly pay for the extra gas!

Does this mean you will have to replace your ignition earlier as you are using it much more with stop start?

      Hi Greg,
We understand your concern. Per page 283 of the Owner's Manual, "This vehicle has been upgraded with a Heavy Duty Battery,
Starter, as well as other engine parts, to handle the Additional engine starts." If you'd like to learn more about this function, you may click on the following link to view a PDF version of the Owner's Manual.

I don't have any issue with this system at all. I also don't take off from the line like a sports car in my JEEP, but that's just me. It's really easy to modulate with a tiny lift off of the break pedal. It's great when I'm trail riding and I stop and I can hear nature and my surroundings. There's a button on the dash, so if you need that A/C blowing high while you're stopping at every intersection while getting groceries, you can turn if off for the drive. Every bit helps my MPG, while I still have 271hp ad 295tq and I appreciate the trade off.
If you were off road or on long trips you wouldn't hardly notice it at all. If you drive it around town, like the commuter car you should have bought, you'll hate it. I am impressed at how lazy people are that they can't be bothered with one button press to turn off this system when they get in.
My advice, if it's too much for you to cope with, sell it and go buy a Honda Accord.

Love my Trailhawk, could be better, but I love it. Any advice on how I can learn the navigation system? I checked the manual, no help there, & now I'm searching the net. Love the time we live in! I'm wondering if there is an option to inform the navigation system to avoid Tolls?

I have to call this one out. I was driving yesterday on the freeway when the throttle stuck wide open. The stop/start light came on. I had to slam the brakes 3 times to get it to stop. I had a 2019 Jeep Cherokee and the same kind of thing happened only then I was not able to turn off the vehicle. I'll be taking my Compass in to the dealership today and will post back with the results. 3078 miles on it☹️

Wendy Cardona even the women know! When an engine starts that is when the most wear happens. You’d be lucky if this engine ever makes it to 100,000 miles.

I am fine with this system, but it need to remember the last state I put it in. When I turn it off, it needs to stay off till I turn it back on. That's an easy software fix, do it jeep!

This is very dangerous. My 2019 Jeep Cherokee stopped on me 3 times in less than 5 minutes. Car stops at 45 mph some one could  jam me right in the back.  I will be find out how deactivate every function to this car.  It's so ridiculous not to mention embarrassing or return it...Purchased in August, less than 6 months of use at 4,000 miles.

Does anyone know where the start/stop battery is located on this model? It's not under the passenger seat like previous year models.

I have a 2015 with the cutoff switch. If a new car doesn’t have a cutoff switch I’m not buying-its a expensive worthless feature

Parking with the start stop system on.
1: Pull up to a parking spot, the car turns off when you stop.
2: Put the car in park, the car starts.
3: Then turn off your car and exit the vehicle.
      Just terrible.

However, none of that would be a problem if the system would just remember the last state it was in. If it stayed off when you turned it off, I could live with it. Instead it is more annoying than anything.

Propaganda. Start stop is just a bullshit feature so car companies can pretend they're saving the environment, but what they're really doing is cooking the books on gas mileage. Meanwhile, your car will wear out faster due to all the unnecessary starts. Win, win, win for the automotive industry.

I have a 19 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk Elite 2.0L Turbo....... start/stop is the worst feature ever made. I’m in Texas and everytime it stops at a stoplight, it’s like the heater comes on. Nothing worse than having to stop, but let’s rub it in your face by turning off the AC while you waiting. JEEP, please give us an option in the menu to permanently disable the start/stop feature... it’s only a few pushes of the button on your end, help us out please!!!!

So, you know it's hot, you know you are driving in town. All you have to do is literally, push one single button. Remote start, keyless entry, push button start. You don't even have to turn a key. lol. You can't be bothered to push one button?
