They should've added a standard plow on the front, would have looked better.

I have two Southern Pacific DD35x from Athearn. I paid $45.00 For one & $35.00 for the other. DC only. I have been told that there is no such thing as a DD35X. In one I put two helex humper motors in & north shore trucks. It runs great. Plus a lot of other work. Now I have to Find time to do the other one.

I can’t help but wonder what’s with the glass (for both sides) at the end of the locomotive and what’s with the doors at the tail?

Ok. I need to add one of them to my collection. I have two DD35's. At least that's what it said on the box. One is completely done and the other needs work. Can you still by the Helix Humper motors? that was a very good motor. Thank you for sharing. SP DD-35 Athearn. I'm not sure I like the becon on the new engine. Mine looks & operates like a real one.

That locomotive is a hard sell, just about every layout I’ve seen on YouTube ..., it’s never used ..... I always see it sitting on the side on the layout doing nothing but optics.

In my book ,athearn is still just in front of bachmann in products but bachmann has stepped up their game with their GG1 ,I model the Pennsy, have 12 bachmann GG1 s ,and a 3unit set of f-3 by MTH ,1 alone can out pull anything athearn has done, my horseshoe curve has 54 inch radius curve ( inside rail) up a 1.85 % climb ,80 hoppers get pulled up by these loco's Broadway limited --- one J1 texas --- one I1 decapod with an extra traction axle added ,one M1a , one L1 mike ,one set of centapedes , 3 sharks as a set, two Atlas H-24-66 trainmaster, and it takes 4 of my buds athearns DDa40x to pull ,once I get farther a long I will do some horseshoe curve videos , with a J1 on the point followed by 2 F2 ab set, followed by a centapedes snapper ( pusher) on the rear moving 100 + loaded hoppers, just like the Pennsy did ,

Better than the original ,yes I said it ,over rated in real life , my dad ran them back in the 70's they were top heavy a rocked back and forth, the crews didn't care for them ,they also had a tendency to yawl at turn out , he put 5-6 on the ties ,at the frog ,most of the crews picked the 4 truck GEunit (U-50) or if that wasn't available, EMD DD-35a as cab unit , the truck mounting for the traction motors we're set up different / DD35a had the motor facing towards the bolster, which put 2 gears on each side , / DDa 40x had all the motors mounted the same way ,which put all the gears on one side , uneven torque on such a long wheel base truck ,if you watch some videos with the 3985 as lead unit with 6936 running behind watch the tender ,it's smooth as glass ,than notice the 6935 rocking side to side so bad she's about to do what happened quit often , bounce one side of the truck right off the rails head and on to the ties

Andrew Borges what flaw in my statement ? My dad was an fireman for the UP ,Wyoming division ,he told me about the 6900's compared to other big power , U-50 s which used the truck and bolsters from traded in turbines which had proven there tracking abilities ,and like I had said before with the trucks , the DD-35 DD-35A we're not dash 2 units not saying DDa40x were junk but not favored for lead units .

If you don't have experience with the machine personally then you can't really make that call. No that I care if the prototype is truly junk or not but I am just pointing out a flaw in your statement.

What did that loco cost about ? Nice but a large curve is needed to run, I have same with the Budd Santa Fe Passenger Coaches my lay out is small nothing like yours. I belonged to a RR Club in Hawthorne, Ca with a 5,000 SQ FT Layout wore headphones to technical. for my likes i just like to run them not into dispatch radio communication dispatch. Been out of hobby since 2004 as digital was taking off. Had in 1969 Atlas Southern Pacific N Guage trains came off tracks often maybe i was too young 9 yrs anyway Good Job Well Done !!!

Bachmanns version is better with all 4 sounds and the same lighting effects. Just A JOKE...Not even close. Plus they are wrong in dimensions. They used the old tooling from the 1990's Spectrum. Called Bachmann right when they came out and asked them if it was all new drive and tooling and was told it was. Not! Bachmann are not only crooks ,but Liars. Save your money and buy the Athearn. They are honest!
