The new Aston Martin Vantage landed, and of course it grabbed my attention as a potential Shmeemobile alongside my Vantage GT8, the last of the previous generation. After expressing interest and completing a spec, the final price landed higher than I had expected. Now that the car has arrived to test drive, do I regret my decision, should I still be buying one?

For the new Vantage, Aston Martin worked with the expertise of AMG for the engine; a 4.0l biturbo V8 making 510hp and 685Nm. Combining that with an 8spd automatic gearbox, stylish looks and modern interior makes it quite an interesting proposition. However, having looked into a car and running through a spec, it came out to approximately £150,000, but is it worth that price?

Thanks for watching, Tim

My first opportunity to drive the new Aston Martin Vantage, a car that has definitely been of interest to me as a future Shmeemobile. However, with a rather high price tag I've not gone for it at the moment, what do you think I should do?

Your take away is why I didn't put an order in, and instead went the Porsche GTS route. This Vantage is too much money compared to its rivals, and having been a 2014 Vantage S owner, I too struggle with some of the design choices around the head lights and the interior. I cringe to think what the Vantage S version of this car will cost. As for the sound, I know plenty of people like the AMG sound, i'm not a big fan, and this car still sounds more AMG than Aston.

Not my cup of tea. So glad to have sprung for a '15 V8 Vantage GT roadster. This is not the first time a car company has taken a step back from an iconic design; nor, unfortunately, will it be the last. Are you listening Porsche?

Why oh why didn't they just style it like the db10 from Spectre? The headlights and grill on the db10 are way nicer than this very Japanese looking car.

You’re right about the front. It looks like a Miata from the front.

Yeah, I don't like the front light either. Looks lame to be honest. I mean this is an Aston Martin, it should look anything but lame. The DB11 or DBS Superleggera is beautiful!

Put a bag over this car's head, it's hideous. If Mitsubishi made a 2019 Eclipse coupe, it would look like this car, inside and out.

Love it except the ugly front headlights (looks like the Corvette C6 or Mazda mx5 or Tesla roadster2) and ugly Volvo taillights. They should have made the Vantage look exactly like the DB10... why fuck up perfection?

For that matter...the DB11 is also an ugly car. The change in Aston styling reminds me of the design destruction Chris Bangle wrought on BMW for so long. It's sad to see a traditionally classic and beautiful GT brand get trashed like this by terrible design decisions.

Saw one up close and personal at the local Aston dealer. I typically love the Aston styling, but this new vantage with the Miata headlights is really a hideous car.

Nice car, pity they've sold out to the bloody German's and used a Merc engine in it, for that reason I'm giving the video a thumbs down. 😑

It’s no longer a British car as its a German under the hood. Worse is that for the price there are plenty of better cars. Mind you the new 911 is less than a year away!

1st generation: one of the most beautiful cars ever designed
2nd generation: utter shite - no Aston-esque class left - mega disappointed

This car could have a Corvette sign on it - I wouldn't mind.
