How important is the RDX to Acura? Not only is it their best-selling vehicle but this 2019 redesign is being heralded as the beginning of a new era for Honda’s luxury division. Remember the Super-Handling All Wheel Drive system that was skipped in favor of a lighter, simpler setup for the 2013 redesign? It’s back. And the original’s turbocharged engine? That’s back, too.

MSRP as-tested: $50,495

I test drive a 2018 & 2019 AWD and bought a basic 2018 AWD because of the V-6 and simple control as in my 2014 CRV. There was not even 2 screen in my 2018. I only wished my 2018 had the SH-AWD. I may be a typical Acura buyer with conservative view. In my opinion, the V-6 and SH-AWD would make it a perfect car. No one cared about MPG on a $50,000 car. My 2018 handled excellent navigating the snowy mountain road 8,000 high in Utah on the last vacation.

I think this one is over price it's almost the same price as MDX plus for the money and size doesn't worth it . 23mpg for a premium for 10 speed that's nothing .((((

I am looking to buy a suv so after a lot of advice from my friends etc I test drove this RDX and was almost going to buy it until the salesperson at Acura accidentally told me that the CX 5 was a very tough competition for it... I didn't quite understand it cos acura is premium and Mazda is for the masses ..So naturally I drove into Mazda next day to see what this CX 5 fad was all about and took a test drive.
I was mind blown with that vehicle. the handling the interiors heck even the drive was way way better than the RDX. And it's was for quiet cheaper than RDX as well. The Acura sales person called me couple of days later asking for my decision ahaha.. I just don't know what to tell him

I've used the Acura touch pad, its actually perfectly usable and intuitive. Touch screens get finger prints all over them, and you have to lean forward and look and tap the screen , the Acura pad is faster and you dont need to change position in your seat. The only complaint is that the split screen is a little weird at first. But it's a good system.

Cool story, I completely disagree, from what you have said you simply have a deep personal preference for touch screens, and are using that ultra biased opinion as a knock against the Acura system. The system works just fine once you allow yourself to get used to it.

Kia UVO/Hyundai Blue Link = 1000 X better. No way a touchscreen is more distracting than this Acura touchpad. And I’ve driven them all.

Your complaint about this shifting is so silly. What's so hard about pushing a button? And as a rlx touch screen owner, this seems so much better. Sounds like you like the the vehicle and it's set up but just had to find something to complain about. One thing about Honda/Acura, is they listen to their consumers and fix those issues..... Seems they hit the nail on the head in this segment. ...... ijs

When you have to shift quickly from drive to reverse or vice versa this setup if far from ideal, especially when time is of the essence. And no; this touchpad crap isn't any good.

Very nice review of a really nice SUV. Acura really did a great job here. I just wish the A-Spec trim could be had with the Advanced package. Same with the MDX. There are several features of theAdvanced package that I would want but I like the styling touches of the A-Spec especially the blacked out window trim (RDX).

We were given an RDX, while our MDX was in for service. Very impressed with the performance. But I was tearing my hair out trying to figure out that touch pad. To say the least it was infuriating.

I have owned that very RDX (White Advance with SH-AWD and Glint Black wheels) since Aug. of ‘18 and will take issue with just the negative comment Steve made about the touch pad. I totally adapted to it after my third day of ownership, and as he noted, it is better than the touch pad in the Lexus. Otherwise, his review was spot on. Good job!

NEVER buy car with Forced Lighting. Always verify that ALL lights can be turned off during the daytime. If you don't do this your resale value is terrible. I sold a used car recently, most of the people that came to look at it would not buy the car because the Daytime Running Lights (DRL) could not be turned off. You have been warned. Toyota has DRL Off on the light switch.

my mazda cx-5 diesel with 420 lbs of torque beats this puny acura in all areas... there is nothing that acura has or does that is incredible. and, even better, my car has a 6 speed manual transmission. rdx, go away and hide.

    • Chris
      Chris In reply to pincudan

Lol, its 420NM of torque, which is 310 ftlbs not 420, which is only 30 more than the RDX and almost 100HP less than the RDX. The CX5 barely gets better mileage and is more expensive to fill, the engineers at Mazda though it a good idea to dump extra fuel to keep their particulate filters clean, so you dont even get the MPG advantage of a diesel. The RDX will eat the CX5s lunch and fuck its wife.
