Technically, any road legal motorcycle could be taken on the open highway to cross continents and live on the road. However, it goes without saying that touring bikes are the most perfectly equipped machines for such tasks. Besides being merciful to your body while riding long distances, a touring bike is capable of carrying quite a lot of stuff, no surprise why the alternative names of these motorcycles are baggers.
In this episode we will be showing the best full dresser models on today’s market and ranking them according to performance parameters, price, reliability and of course our personal unjustified tastes. If you agree with our selected models, then this video will serve as a great buying guide for those who are shopping for a tourer in 2018 or planning to buy one next year.

Motorcycles featured in this episodes and time codes:

4:53 #6 Honda CTX1300: powersports.honda.com/2014/ctx1300.aspx

6:14 #5 Yamaha Star Venture: yamahamotorsports.com/transcontinental-touring/models/2018/star-venture

Yamaha Star Venture is the company’s all-new top of the line “transcontinental” tourer featuring a big 1.85-liter air-cooled V-twin with 126 lb-ft of torque. The bike is priced at $25,000 with an optional transcontinental package available for additional 2 grands.

9:22 #2 BMW K1600 GTL: bmwmotorcycles.com/en/models/tour/k1600gtl.html
BMW K1600 GTL is the ultimate BMW touring bike by many accounts. In addition to superior handling, 125 mph top speed, and 160 horses of power, it offers the highest level of comfort and luxury imaginable.

10:24 #1 Honda Goldwing Tour: powersports.honda.com/2018/gold-wing.aspx

The history of Honda Goldwing started back in 1975 as a quite shy naked style 1000 4 cyl, however over the years this bike grew in size and became a legend of touring motorcycles with more than 600,000 models sold all over the world.

I literally got close to 50 mpg on my Road King. I road to Daytona with a guy who had a Goldwing and he was getting about 35 mpg. With my larger tank, I was getting almost 300 miles out of a tank and he was not getting 200 miles.

Automotive Territory: Trending News & Car Reviews To the best of my knowledge (I’ve spoken with him since then too), there is nothing wrong with his bike. He still gets under 200 miles per tank. I now ride an Ultra Limited with the 114 cu. inch and it gets about 280 miles per tank.

That is indeed impressive. Do you think your companion's particular Goldwing unit was flawed? Because I did read feedback from many GW riders, who also claim very good MPG ratings, while there are many who have indeed poor results

I just can't do Indian! Sorry no offense to anyone out there, it's just a personal thing, HD Road King - nice basic bike, Motor Guzzi - just so nostalgic, Kawasaki Vulcan - so beautiful from any angle and my kind of heavy, Honda CTX - ugly but smooth again not my thing, Yamaha Star Venture - it's nice enough I guess, I just can't like an Indian - their unreliable history has ruined it for me, HD Electra - is a list topper for me if I was into these bikes, BMW K1600 - loved by many many many including me, Honda Goldwing - became an old man bike back in the 70's and has just aged since and still a couch on wheels albeit a comfortable couch.

      Nice list!

+Automotive Territory: Trending News & Car Reviews Coming off a Ducati Multistrada it has been pleasant. The ride has been much smoother. I feel more relaxed. The Ultra does not corner the same. But then, what is the rush. I am still getting used to the turn signal buttons and all of the chrome. I haven't bothered to figure out the radio yet. So I just turn it down. I would throw it in the trash if it was that easy. Who needs a radio when they ride. I am keeping the engine and exhaust stock. If I wanted more speed and noise. I would of kept the Duc

A total misconception that one would need an 800-900+ lbs, $20k+ barge for touring. Sport tourers and/or ADV tourers get the job done as well, or better! I've been cross country on a Suzuki V-Strom 650 and on my current Kawasaki Versys 1000. Have done my Iron Butt on my Versys, traveled from Miami, FL (departure Monday 6PM) to Albuquerque, NM (arrival Wednesday 8PM) in 52 hours. And my Versys has the nimble(-ish) handling to have fun on Deal's Gap! Touring the Blue Ridge Parkway, I left my buddies on their big-inch, heavy V-twin bikes far behind.

Hello Arjen - I couldn't agree more :-) Back in the 1960's I toured on my old trusty steed, a BSA 2½hp which was great fun, later, I toured on my BSA 6½hp A10.

+Automotive Territory: Trending News & Car Reviews That is a tough tone to answer. I like the Yamaha Venture but it lacks liquid cooling. The BMW is the king of horsepower. Honda's Goldwing is the tech king, but lacks in roominess. HD is pricey, and Indian misses the mark in so many ways. The Kawasaki Vulcan 1700 Voyager needs a few key improvements over the next year or so like liquid cooling, better engine HP, and a few tech mods to be the next king, or at least MVP in waiting.
