Great teamwork guys. More reviews please! The passenger, despite being under the weather, seems to have paid more attention to the minor but important details during the presentation. I'm grateful for those details. Subscribing.

could you please ask what is the wading depth of the new GLE? The old was rated to 2 ft, a lot less than discovery and range rover sport that can ford a smidge less than 3 ft of water...

I currently own a Benz and have had 5 of them, was excited to drive the gle350. It was the biggest disappointment I’ve ever driven, it struggles to accelerate and struggles to down shift. The engine whines hard when accelerating, sounds like a cheap car struggling. Not sure what Mercedes was thinking but for the first time in years I’ll be skipping the Benz. The GLE450 with adaptive cruise and real leather will cost you over 81k, the price of a Range Rover or Porsche or the bigger GLS450. The tech screen were very nice but the plastics were much cheaper feeling than the old version. Driving the Volvo XC90 after this made the Mercedes seem like a rip off, Volvo has real leather, more autonomous driving features and they are standard not expensive options. Also the Volvo has 60hp more horsepower and was 10k less, I guess my current Benz will be my last. I see why the e300 was a flop in the US, the engine is way underpowered.

There are gorgeous rivals like the audi Q8, the new lincoln aviator or the still great range rover sport with a new in-line 6 cylinder 400hp. I'd skip the new GLE as well as long as I need to replace my audi Q7.

My guess about the hard plastic on the lower parts of the doors...... for family’s using it for outdoor pursuits - horse riding, Motocross, Mountain biking, etc i.e. getting in and out with muddy/dirty footwear.

Leasing would be the only option, if I had to finance I'd go with a Honda CRV due to reliability.

Ill say it so no one else has to. Mercedes is American made JUNK. All models, all variants. They are dumped in quantity on the used market by people who had a latte handed to them in the dealership, were told how 'lucky' they were that this model was on the lot and hoped what everyone is saying about them wasn't true, closed their eyes and drove home with the gut gnawing feeling they just screwed themselves. I know several people who've owned various models and NOT ONE kept their cars. $700.00+ for an oil change? $1,200 for one shock absorber? And not one of them ranks highly anymore in any respect. Scotty Kilmer has a great video on Mercedes here on Youtube. Watch it before you buy one.

Overall a very good looking SUV, at least in this trim. A few concerns, though: the front bumper, the electronic instrument cluster, and a rear bench that seems a bit too low.

Given that you two were searching for technology to discuss - you probably should have described the quality of the audio system. I drive a GLC, and the Burmester audio was an important deciding factor for me.

Naturally a lease only vehicle. If you purchase this vehicle, you will be committing seppuku in a NY-minute, due to unfixable electrical gremlins, high maintenance costs and very high depreciation rate.

@Darius Slay Ahhh, BS talks. Acura had a few early models with issue however Acura is way more reliable than any German marque. Acuras are basically Hondas, as you well know.

Mister Methuselah that’s a lie about Acura or genesis. Genesis got better Hyundai was shit for a long time in reliability. Acura was never top notch in reliability. It’s not the worst but not have problems... no! Lexus is the one that doesn’t really have problems. But how many risks does Lexus take as far as gimmicks and or technology? They wait for everything along with the same engines for decades. That is why people lease and buy other vehicles. More power more technology. Toyota just started Bluetooth in like ‘13 or ‘14. Come on now

@K Clark I speak from experience on M-Bs. My family has owned Benzes for over 40 years. After the 1990s, they (& me) started purchasing MBs extended warranties. Last bulletproof and reliable Benzes were made in the 1990s. Next time you take your car for service, speak to an older service rep and ask him how today's Benzes compare to the past. German cars (including VWs) have the highest depreciation rate of any cars, including American, because outside of the warranty period, maintenance is astronomic. Honda, Acura, Toyota, Lexus do not have these issues, because things tend not to break in the first place. They also have the lowest depreciation rates of any cars as well due to low cost of ownership and high reliability. People seek these cars out and are willing to pay for them on the secondary market.

I personally am not a fan of the design. The plastic cladding is horrible, and the fake air vents are obviously. I'm also not a fan of the side view. It just looks oddly proportioned. Mercedes exterior designs are either a hit or miss.

the rear of the '19 X5 is also oddly proportioned. the rear bumper sticks out in a manner that makes the rear look disproportionate! still an attractive SUV but i wanted to point that out!
