2017 Honda Civic still has a VTEC motor under the bonnet, but this time it’s a VTEC turbo. There’s a 1.0 129 hp 3-cylinder unit, and a 1.5 182 hp 4-cylinder motor. This test Honda Civic has a 1.5 turbocharged engine, 182 HP, a huge boot, and it seems to one of the most expensive compact hatchbacks out there. This Civic in Prestige trim costs almost 33k euro with CVT. But it’s got absolutely everything Honda has to offer.

It's rated at 8.2 but more like 7.2-7.5 depending on gearbox (so I've read anyway)

0-100, in 8 seconds, is not fast. In india enthusiats would give and arm and leg to get a honda that can do 100 in 8 sec. Look how the market has been categorized to milk money.

i’m testdriving 1,5 turbo now in Iceland (thinking to buy) and get easily 0-100 km around 7 sec. You have to take the traction control off and drive in S mode. Amazing car to drive fast... specaly around fast corners, and when you drive “normal drive” you are driving around 50 km faster than everybody without trying :)

'Speed demon this car ain't' - Yes true when you drive it in ECO mode! - you shouldn't review cars if you don't take 20 minutes to learn the features of the car first. Turn OFF the ECO button.

If you have the magic seats, you have to trade off suspension for a torsion beam type which everybody slated. You can’t have both. I would rather trade off magic fold down seats and have independent rear suspension. I also know people who have changed from a Golf who love driving this latest Civic.

I have used "magic" seats. I was delighted with them and I'm sorry that they are gone.

I drive a 1.5t Sport plus. Average fuel consumption is 6.7l/100km combined and 6.0l on highway with cruise control set to 150km/h. I drive over 600km with one tank. I have had so far two earlier Civics, an Accord, a Prelude, a CR-V and an FR-V and it is far the best among them. Maybe only the Prelude had a similar fun to drive as this new Civic. I recommend it for anyone who loves sporty japanese cars.

I have, my friend, Honda Civic Type S of 2008... I bought it in 2009. So many years and its still like brand new... Except from the look what are the most important differences between those models? I am asking because i have seen from close red Civic with 1.5 engine and i was with my mouth open...

To have Magic Seats you have to have the old crappy Torsion Beam suspension as in the previous 2 models of Civic. I would sacrifice that for proper suspension.

Idk If the engine displacements are different where you are from but in America it's definitely not a VTEC anymore unfortunately. It's just a 1.5 Earth dreams technology Turbo engine.

    • Marek Drives
Marek Drives In reply to Chris Spooner

It's called VTEC Turbo. Earth Dreams Technology is just a Honda slogan they've been putting on the engine covers for some time. There's a plaque on this engine too https://youtu.be/2WqJmK4uulg?t=4m45s
