This is the SUV for someone who needs bigger, larger and more of everything. In a world where many SUVs and CUVs continue to pretend they are trucks the Expedition truly is and shares many of the good things about the Ford F150. There are other choices like the Lexus LX570, Chevy Suburban and now Kia Telluride the Expedition has a long history of high usage.

I rented an Expedition for a week in Colorado. It was fantastic. I don't really need an Expedition for daily use. But anytime I take a road trip, I'm renting one. That turbo engine was flawless and powerful going up thru the Million Dollar highway, from 3000 feet to 11300 feet in elevation. I may buy an Expedition MAX to live in full time. $80000 home on wheels. lol

Thanks for a great review. Nice to see one that doesn't feel like it was paid for by the car maker. I still like it after a test drive, and i appreciate your insight.

Could you comment on the headlights? Ford in general has poor rated lights by IIHS, and as someone who drives a ton at night on country roads, lights is a critical consideration. Thanks!

Call me g4y, but I’ll rather take a 2016 Toyota Highlander V6 AWD LIMITED for less than 28k.

Lmao isn’t this suv like over 65k? My dad still has his 1999 and it’s a piece of shit. I don’t want to know how this one turns out in 20 years.🤢

Low mileage 2018 limited trim models can be had now for $42-50K. The difference in price between the standard wheelbase model and the Max is even more negligible. If someone's already getting this massive car, might as well get the Max and have the extra space (and safety for 3rd row passengers from rear-end crashes). If you want to take an extended trip with more than five people in the car, the extra space comes in handy.

This is just a shitty Lincoln navigator and considering how close the prices are, this vehicle should just not exist idk why anyone would buy this instead.

We have 5 kids that play baseball, basketball, football whatever we need the max. We actually down sized from an Excursion and at times our max is to small. BTW an Excursion could tow 12,000 lbs.

The interior is the only real weak point on this vehicle, estimated gas miliage for some not withstanding. Cost can drop dramatically if you ease up on the frills and wait for rebates and sales clearances. Overall a nice vehicle in it's class. Good review as always.

This seems far more realistic at $80,000 than the Edge does at $40,000.

Geese is a rare bird in that he strikes me as more of a car guy but he can put that aside and review a truck from a truck buyers perspective while keeping expectations realistic and objective.

This looks like a bus, from my european perspective. Having driven in the US, i still cant understand why one would need such a gigantic vehicle to move around.
Btw, the gas there is dirt cheap, so moving around in a normal car is fkn inexpensive. But hey, lets drive around in tanks with cruise ship engines, so that we can burn enormous quantities of fuel and then proceed to rant about 'high' gas prices.
However, if i were to choose a vehicle for business purposes, i still wouldnt buy this thing, looks way too cheap for the price they ask . It's too big on the outside with too little space inside.

      Not a very good review...
Little mention that this is the only large SUV with a comfortable 3rd row that can seat a normal person, not just midgets. The Max version is actually a bit shorter than the Suburban, its closest competitor, while the regular models are approximately 3" longer than a Tahoe.
The interior is not as bad as that of a Toyota Sequoia, which is horrific and plasticky. Get the Platinum, and it is actually quite refined.
The ride is nearly identical to that of a Navigator, it's the same Independent Suspension, yet the Expedition has load-leveling and more ground clearance.
Removing electronic stability on a 480 lb/ft torque motor on slush or wet pavement will make any vehicle fishtail. That's a Darwin-Awards worthy statement.
The price ranges are actually sensible, considering this is a hot segment. Only the Platinum will reach the $80k mark, while a decently-optioned XLT with Driver-Assist, Towing Pkg and Cargo Pkg is just under-$60k. It also comes standard with far more features than the aforementioned Sequoia.
Lastly, the decibels inside the cabin are actually quite low on paved roads, compared to that of GM counterparts.

Lastly.... lose the hat while driving...

Not the first time I say it, but Ford really need to fire the interior design team. It's been so long and their interior still looks like cheap crap.

was at th e Toronto Home show this year and Ford's section was the most disappointing. This car was HUGE inside. Like I could raise a family in it. But I find the interior to be very boring. Also....the new EcoSport......I promise if you test that...you will fall asleep. And its back seats are a punishment to sit on.
