Loved this video. No flames but we got to see the engineers get a supply line up and lay a line to the building. And it was good to see them taking up everything when done. A small slice of a fire fighters day.

Nice video John! It was so interesting watching them pack up. It's not all flames, smoke, rescue and putting on water for these guys. There is also a lot of picking up, putting away, folding hoses and getting those huge trucks out. Nice to see this side of firefighters also. Thanks!

Respect to the mx for firefighters themselves. None for the union or management. I was a member of a large municipal fire department and when I developed a neuro-muscular disease, rather than receive help from my union or management, I was unceremoniously told, "quit or be fired." That IS the story. Nothing else involved. The other firefighters in my hall were sympathetic but they were gagged. I never found out why. It ruined my life. Considering neuro-muscular disorders are the "cause of choice" for firefighters, I never forgave them for what they did to me. Never, ever trust your chief, management or union. You too could be screwed.

New York is an amazing city. Traffic keeps flowing, life keeps going, on all around the firefighters.

Question: I was surprised to see the FF on the street in shorts and T-shirt. What's that about? Are the guys who stay at the trucks and operate the pumps allowed to go in shorts and T-shirts. I guess it would be uncomfortable to have them wearing a heavy turnout coat in summer.

    • J Walker
J Walker In reply to Javier Fauxnom

Thank you so much for explaining this to us. I've asked about this but never received a reply. It's something I found unusual because our firefighters here never wear shorts and our temps. go over 100 degrees during the Summer and remain high for several months.

+Javier Fauxnom ***Typically*** the chaffeurs of Ladders and Engines respond without bunker gear on since most times they are left to tend to the rig at a scene. If they are needed to be put to work away from the rig they just throw on their bunker gear that is stored in one of the rigs compartments. However, when it comes to the Rescues and Squads and other units where all members on the rig are expected to work away from the rig ***typically*** they all respond from quarters with full necessary gear on. Don't know what the official protocol says, but this is how I have seen things done in my 25 years.
