Also, More miss-information in this video. ALP was also the first with a built in recorder and it does not require any special firmware. You just need to insert a USB Key with a file we give users and it will turn into a full fledged detailed recorder and yes it works while driving and it builds a complete database of every laser pulse it see's. We just do not publicize it because there is no threat that ALP does not protect against. There is also no need for this feature because AL is not cheap and they buy and maintain their own gun collection and they do not rely on its users to inform them when a threat is not recognized.

I know you feel that running one cable for 2 sensors is a benefit but in reality its not. If you have a cable failure both sensors go down instead of just one sensor.

    • Hammerdown
Hammerdown In reply to Tom Milone

Since both systems will alert you to a dead head / cable, I see this as a non issue for both. Plus, whether you lose 1 head or 2, your system is compromised and one would only be safe to assume in that scenario that it wont perform, thereagain rendering one split cable vs 2 cables a non issue. OTOH, only having to run one cable through a tough spot in a firewall vs 2 cables: priceless.

So what you’re saying is that everything has pros and cons? 😄 This applies to the ALP using a splitter for two regular rear heads and one Tx sensor, but there’s times when that compromise/risk is worth it, yes?

LOL. TMG was extensively tested by independent tester (respected) here in the US and Canada. Any decent product will mature and we are focused on constantly updating to achieve the best of the best so we will continue to update. If people wish to be critical of a company striving to provide their customers with the best than so be it. TMG is coming out with new features and functionalities that will not require anything more than a simple component swap. And then only if the user chooses to do so.

My apologies if I am saying bull#### here, please correct me if I am wrong, but I can't get over that these manufacturers are still doing these bulky sensor heads like 10 years ago. Perhaps it's not a problem there in the States, but here in Europe you want your installation to be as hidden as possible. Do you guys know the reason why just Stinger does compact heads? Also, why don't LJ manufactures don't get creative and design heads that mimic those new automotive sensors commonly found in today's new cars (eg.: front collision alert)? So you could cut your plastic grill and have something that looks OEM, increasing the stealthiness of your installation. Great video by the way Vortex!

    • axelrod21
axelrod21 In reply to Flavio C

One is issue is the more spread out the components the less potentional effective distance the head can cover. For example if I built a head that 2 piece head and the receive head is 2m apart from the trasmit head then you would have the total distance of the head coverage decreased. To compensate for that I would have to go with a 3 piece head and another draw back is the smaller the devices and the smaller wiring is not as rugged and more prone to shock damage. You would have to put more material and bracing inside the pieces to make it more rugged. So it can be done but you would take a hit to price and simplicity.
As for miminicing light can pass through certain materials but is more restrictive than say radar so a white or colored painted material in front of the laser is a no go except for certain tented plastics you could in theory increase the transparency through the color might make the laser component more visible to decetion. Hope that helps :)

@Tom Milone , I agree that Stinger is very costly, but my question was why other manufactures (e.g. ALP, etc.) haven't developed more compact heads? Why just Stinger? These ALP or TMG heads are just a bit more compact than those from 10 years ago.

There is a cost that most are not willing to pay for small fiber sensors. A new Stinger front and rear laser system is roughly $6000+ US, That is much more expensive and out of reach for the average user.

I'm thinking about buying the TMG system for my wife's vehicle and would love to test them out on lidar guns I've been testing out my ZR5 system on. Need to get more information on the system.

Probably. We focused on the majority of guns used in the USA ourselves for the initial rollout. Small footprint of DET and they are not spreading in purchasing circles for LEO's. Very limited footprint. But unlike Escort we are continuing with growing our already successful VPR gun defenses.

Yeah I don't wanna be a noodge, but I saw that part in there about the HiFi 'confusion' so I've just gotta reiterate: When I purchased my system, the HiFi accessory, NOT the add on in the order, was 99.95. I have screenshots proving that I ordered 2 quad systems without a HiFi System, which means it would have come with a standard controller, and then I have 2 HiFi modules in the cart as well, which also comes with the controller. I called ahead and made it clear I was ordering it this way, and that I needed it for the particular setup I was going to run at the time. I received only the HiFi Controller, and the prices were raised on the HiFi accessory by $20 the day following the order. We spoke, reached a mutually agreeable purchase scenario, I ordered, and the wrong stuff was sent on purpose. I called about it, and "there's nothing we can do." It was a cheap thing to do, and it forced me to alter my setup. I know my way around 12V, so I was able to alter it, but the point is that is not what I ordered, or was planning on receiving, and I have proof to that effect if you want to see it.

I agree with you, it's still the best system out there, so I still use it, and they've served me very well, but I'm particularly glad to see that gap between them and TMG closing, because the experience not related to the jammers themselves has been less than stellar, to say the least.

Anyway, great video, hope to see a straight up actual shootout on your car soon!

I understand, thank you. You brought this up in the other video and HiFi stuff has been asked elsewhere as well, so I wanted to clear up the pricing aspect. When I bought the HiFi in 2014, the price was less than $99, so the price has actually changed over time. The custom setup thing is a related, but separate issue, and I saw that Tom had a chance to talk to you about it in the last video as well which I'm glad to see. Sorry for the problems that you faced either way!

One thing I think TMG needs to do is to home in on DragonEye and make it 99% reliable sense nothing is 100% then move on to the app. Also a feature I want to see TMG and ALP both is a secondary momentary switch to disable and to be wired to a control box with the light like you mentioned. Have it attach to the main control box and with a accessory port. For example I would put the light in the dash and run wires to the steering wheel and put the switch on the backside sense my fingers rest there 9 to 3 position.

Thanks for doing everthing you do.

@Tom Milone but I already have the Escort ones installed. Had them for a year now, and rather not have them swapped out unless the ALP can be integrated. Since it can't, better off just adding the ALP and running it alongside the Escort system, hence my plan B.

IMHO if I were buying a system today it would be APL's.

The main reason is that ALP performance vs VPR guns including Dragon Eye is too big of a risk. I have seen in your videos that you don't need to worry if Dragon Eye is not in your state. I disagree because any LEA can purchase DE the next day now you get a ticket and insurance hike that costs more than what you save in purchase costs.

Changing out system after DE comes to town is way too costly and time consuming. My example is two states away in GA they use DE. I travel to FL once or 2x a year. My ALPs saved me on I-75 including 93 in 70. That one Ticket would outweigh any savings. If it can't stop DE I'd never recommend it. this is what TMG needs to spend their time on defeat DE. Blinder and Escort are not an option because of the VPR issues. More gun makers will push VPR algos if there is only one countermeasure that is expensive.

I'm rooting for TMG to master this but until they do it is too risky to recommend.
