5:21 Capless fuel setup is not Ford patented feature. A lot of new cars have that including my 2017 Camaro.

I thought the higher trim levels Explorers had 360 degree camera like the Platinum F150

We are trying to decide between a Limited, Sport or Platinum. After a couple of brief test drives and watching many YT reviews I have a few questions remaining...
      1. Does the Platinum model have the same suspension as the Sport?
      2. Are the paddle shifters operative only in Sport mode? Is sport mode on the round dial (as video suggests) or is it the "S" on the shift lever?
      3. Is there a cover for the front moon roof?
      4. Do the 2nd row bucket seats have armrests at the centre of the vehicle?
      5. Will it apply emergency braking for cross traffic or a pedestrian? (What option is required for this?)

i think they only started to make the ford emblem a platinum color on the steering wheel because gmc puts denali on their steering wheels

I'd say it's more comparable to the Land Rover Discovery. I'd prob go w the Discovery though since price points are about the same. But even the blue prints are similar. The double sun roofs, the seats, the interior, etc.

Are these explorers still giving people headaches, nausea, and other symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning?

No - exhaust was updated for 2018-19 model year, I don't believe there have been any CO reports in those years. Definitely be careful buying used, especially low miles - I saw a few bought back by dealers for exhaust issues.

We considered a Highlander but the seats are so low .. with no height adjustment on the passenger front seat. Limited model has 4-way power, but that does not include height adjustment.

Highlander is also lifeless and boring to drive...the same is not true for the 365hp Explores. BTW, I'm saying this as someone whose owned 4 runners for the last decade (3 now).

Its true but I'm not talking about heavy off-road
In light off-road and snow obviously Highlander is better
And explorer lacks a feature rear sunshades
Explorer is louder and lacks 360 birds eye view camera
Highlander is silent and hybrid is available for better mpg
Overall yes explorer maybe a good car in style
But versatility is better in Toyota

Anurag Pal Not necessarily, yes cars have become more complex, but so has the manufacturing and engineer process, cars are more reliable now than ever before.

Puff the Magic Dragon In reply to Anurag Pal

Anurag Pal What idiot takes a highlander or explorer offroad? If someone wants to take a car offroad alot buy a raptor/bronco or 4 runner, all of which can be purchased for a similar price as this if not less and they can also serve as a family car just with 5 seats instead of 5. This and the highlander are designed to haul people around for 15 yrs safely, and comfortably rather than to go rock crawling. 99.999999999% of explorer and highlander owners will never take their cars offroad so it's fine for what it is.

when you were sitting in the third row did you move the middle seat up for more room ?

They use the gramps style radio and 12 big buttons for climate control and small screen for the entertainment and the instead of cd player they use iPads and put an iPads on the back of the head rest. Also remove the third row and add a third only as an option and make the second row recline and put a minni fridge in the back and popup table treys like in air planes and the Land Rover then it would be worth luxury prices.

Largely based on up your review of Ford Fusion Platinum, 2017, purchased it. Love it.

Book recommends premium for optimal performance with 2.0 turbocharged. Always use top tier gas, mostly from Costco.

I was tossed between this platinum and the Lexus gx 460
After the second test drive I learned that the v6 twin turbo was much more fun to drive... and... HANDS DOWN- the options included and 60k warranty had me sold! We bought ours Sunday
I love this car/SUV! Grey/ white intererior.... and my kids are all adults- so this luxury SUV is not no soccer momma mobile 😜

If you had to choose between an MDX, Explorer, X5, and q5, which vehicle would you purchase. I'm considering buying the Platinum. But something keeps telling me that I can get one of its foreign rivals for a similar price.

    • Michael Lopour
Michael Lopour In reply to Orange Marley

What makes the Explorer stand out among that group is engine power - only the X5 comes close. SQ5 does as well (although I think X5 is hard to get with a third row, Q5/SQ5 are two row only). The extra power is fun but really only needed to make towing easier, especially up mountains and at altitude. MDX will be more reliable. Q5 is light fun easy to drive and good fuel economy. X5 will give you anything/everything you could want but for more than an Audi and way more than a Ford. Just depends what is important to you they are all vehicles with individually strong attributes. Explorer Platinum checks more boxes than most for less $$ than most.
