After a brief drive on foreign roads in cars that aren’t quite exactly like what we’ll end up with, is the 2019 Mazda 3 still positioned to be a segment favourite? While we don’t know final model grades – or pricing – yet, I think it’s a strong contender. We’ll let you know what those prices and grades are as soon as we can.

But in the meantime, you should be waiting for the new Mazda 3 to land locally before you buy your new small car. It’s a subtle improvement on an already high-quality entrant in the segment.

Everytime I look at the hatch version it looks better and better. The sedan is okay but it looks too much like the Mazada6.

To me the display/screen just juts up from the dash and looks out of place....like they forgot about it during the design and just put it there at the last minute. It contrasts with the streamline of the dash and also looks like it would impede driving visibility.Does the same thing in the Mazda 6 btw.

Absolutely unconstructive review! No downsides mentioned, no comments on noisiness (which was the biggest drawback of the previous gen)... Dislike.

Had a 14 and now a 18, both Grand Touring models I must say Im on the fence about the 19 Mazda 3 . I would like to see one in person before passing final judgment on it.

I have owned all 3 generations of the Mazda 6. To me, Gen 2 was an evolution of Gen 1 (same platform with minor improvements here and there) while Gen 3 was revolutionary compared to Gen 2 (brand new Skyactiv vs old MZR). It seems that this Gen 4 Mazda 3 follows the same trend. It's interesting to see Mazda puts a lot of effort in the marketing of the new internal combustion engine when they have offered Hybrid Mazda 3 in Japan for a while. Personally, I will skip this car and wait for Gen 5.

These overseas launches are great, but we rarely get the uplifting interior leather colours offered in other markets. What’s Mazda’s plan in Australia? A dark only leather choice could look pretty drab.

Looks really nice in the Gun Metal Grey, or is it black? I wonder what percentage of cars sold now are manual vs Auto, given most people spend so much time in peak hour traffic, I can't imagine many people would opt for a manual transmission.

So they gave him a car for hours and all he can say is this car is every bit as good as the old one? So... No improvement? Why bother?

Every other review today said there was only a Sedan to test this past week and a black out on all reviews until today. You were the lucky one that got a Manual Hatch to review. The car is gorgeous. I will wait for in depth performance review on handling. Sad that the multi link rear suspension was done away with. I love the way my 2012 3 GT manual Hatch drives and corners and would like to replace it.

They've gone away from the touch screen because it's NOT safe while you're driving (considering the position of the screen in relation to your driving position)! ;)
