Badge Engineering is when one company makes an agreement with another, and gets to market a car they did not design as their own. Automakers do this all the time for different reasons. Today, we’re going to learn why.

Join Nolan as he checks out some of the okay-est and worst “badge jobs” in history, because there aren’t many good ones.

WheelHouse answers all the questions about the automotive world you never thought to ask. Nolan Sykes looks at the history, sociology and psychology behind the cars you love, and the features you might overlook.

In India too we have cases of badge engineering. Renault and Nissan for example. Renault's Duster was rebadged as Nissan Terrano and Nissan's Micra was rebadged as Renault Pulse. Another example is Suzuki's Indian arm Maruti Suzuki and Toyota. Maruti's Baleno is being sold as Toyota Glanza. The build quality of Baleno is really shit and safety has taken a backseat

      Toyota Passo = Daihatsu Boon

They're just standard economy cars, but I don't know many unique rebadged cars so whatever.

GM's mistake with the SS (besides not advertising it at all) is forgetting that loads of 30-somethings played plenty of Gran Turismo growing up, and a lot of us actually DO know what Holdens are - and we might have actually bought a Commodore. Hell - they could have even done a Mad Max tie-in and we'd have eaten that shit up... but nah. The SS was just there to fulfill a contractual obligation, and any opportunities it represented were simply passed-over.

I think the Buick Cascada is based on a Opel/Vauxhall. Also I think Cadillac did a car in the early 90s based on a Opel/ Vauxhall Omega

GM does it a lot. They sold the Opel Astra as a Saturn in America, an Opel in mainland Europe, a Vauxhall in the UK. The same exact car in multiple different markets. It's crazy.

I've seen rebadged cars which I question a lot
      Toyota Yaris > Daihatsu Charade
      Daihatsu Ignis > Subaru G3X
      Daihatsu Sirion > Subaru Justy
And TypeR badges on a non TypeR Hondas or non Honda cars.... And sport badges which belong to a Civic EP on non Honda...

My first car was an '85 Buick Century -- very close to the Cadillac Cimarron mentioned. GM must've been dreaming if they were going to pit any of those cars against an M3.
My Century was slow; that thing could lose a turd race to itself.
