Badge Engineering is when one company makes an agreement with another, and gets to market a car they did not design as their own. Automakers do this all the time for different reasons. Today, we’re going to learn why.

Join Nolan as he checks out some of the okay-est and worst “badge jobs” in history, because there aren’t many good ones.

WheelHouse answers all the questions about the automotive world you never thought to ask. Nolan Sykes looks at the history, sociology and psychology behind the cars you love, and the features you might overlook.

I wouldn't consider half of these listed as badge engineered vehicles. GM owns Holden. Holden uses GM platforms, engines, etc. It's not really badge engineering when it's all under GM.

Badge engineering is where one manufacturer goes to another manufacturer of completely different decent and says "hey we'd like to take x car and put it into our lineup", we don't consider Toyotas with Lexus badges to be badge engineered and likewise we shouldn't consider a Holden with a Chevy badge to be badge engineer because technically they are quite literally the same company. When it's the same company it's simply just a rebadge, not a badge engineer.

Holden is hugely popular here in New Zealand aswell. With car enthusiasts here there's always been a rivalry between Holden fans and Ford fans (Particularly the Holden Commodore vs the Ford Falcon) because of the popular race event in Australia they have called bathurst. Most people i know are Holden fans though, they love the lion here.

2004 Skoda Superb is a rebadged 3BG Passat, which is based on the B5/PL45 platform for the Audi A4/6, but with a lengthened wheelbase. Interestingly, this generation and the B1 generation Passat/Superb/A4/A6 are the only gens to share a platform.

Just FYI, NUMMI made the s**ttiest Toyotas ever. Many of them really were GM quality. Any Corolla or RAV4 made an any other factory would be infinitely better.

You said the biggest flop was by GM with the SS but in reality it wasn’t advertised enough and Chevy didn’t paid attention to it. But all around it could’ve sell! The biggest disaster was the Aston Martin one in two years they only sold 150 but the SS sold 13,000 in 4 years.
