GM, No More Chevrolet? Make Corvette The BRAND! C8 Will Thank You?

I wanted to make this video because there are so many people out there saying that Corvette should split off from the Chevrolet brand and be its own brand, that this is how the C8 Mid-Engine Corvette should be presented. I'm not sure why most of these people are saying this, as they really aren't giving explanations with their opinions.

I’d like to have some really great explanations of why this would be so great for Corvette and how this would not only help Corvette but also not hurt Chevrolet or GM.

I’m going to give my opinion on the matter and just tell you what comes to my mind when I think about Corvette going out on their own.

1: First of all I think this would only maybe be possible for the areas that get large allocations of Corvettes. Take, for example, I know the City of Dallas has quite a few dealerships that have thousands of new Corvette’s delivered to them every year, however, a small city that probably only has 1 Chevrolet dealership, may only have 100 or less Corvette’s delivered to them. I know from being in the car business, that a dealership can not survive if it’s only selling 100 cars a year. This would be a huge problem for small towns or cities. So in these cases, what would Chevrolet do, would they just have a small section built onto a current dealership that was just for Corvette’s?

2: What would this do to the price of the car? In my opinion, it would make the price go up substantially. Chevrolet isn’t going to just build all these new Corvette only dealerships out of the goodness of their hearts. Plus if you look at the history of General Motors, it’s mission statement has always been to be able to bring quality car's to the public at a reasonable price. This would no longer apply to Corvette if it was its own brand.

3: Is something similar to this already happening today, yes? Corvette world in Dallas & Houston both sell only used Corvette’s and they both sell anywhere from 30-50 per month! It’s quite impressive. Keep in mind though, these aren’t new Corvette’s, they aren’t relying on allocations and they have no limits on how many cars they can go out and buy to fill their showrooms. If Chevrolet came up with a way to make a new Corvette dealership run like Corvette world, it still might not sell enough new Corvette's and they may have to build more Corvette only dealerships in the bigger cities.

So I ask you, what is this really doing for the Corvette?

Would this decrease the sales on Corvette’s?

Would this I increase the price of the Corvette?

How would this benefit Chevrolet?

How would it benefit GM?

And my final question is, how will this help the C8 Corvette?

Tt65K, all cars today have a load of plastic in them. Corvette is not the only one. Furthermore, most people that are not into endurance racing fail to realize that Corvette has best Porsche, Ferrari, BMW, and the Ford, gt40. All these cars that compete in the IMSA endurance racong program cost well more than the Corvette. Corvette has talen the manufacturers championship 3, three straight years. Corvette has won other IMSA championship dating back since 2001. Long are the days that these beautiful European automobiles automatically can claim victory over Corvette. About two or three years ago in the 24 Hours of LeMans it was one the most exciting rivalries. Corvette against Aston Martin. Sad to say the Corvette was winning with one lap to complete, however they banged against one another and the right rear tire of the Corvette was cut. It allowed Aston Martin to win its class. You are looking at a car that is at least three time the cost of Corvette. If I am spending that kind of money; then a car costing less bet not be able to contend with me. Corvette has raced against all the cars just described and won. People should stop making all kinds of excuses and just credit where it is rightfully due.

Don't let this distract you from the fact that Hector is gonna be running 3 Honda Civic's with spoon engines. On top of that he just came into Harry's and ordered 3 t66 turbo's with NOS's and a Motec System Exhaust.

@1908Rick Very true, they spend a ton of money on R&D but that hardly reflects in buying costs to something comparable in performance! Comparable might just be a 918, go buy that for a 150k and you will be rebuilding it for at least the next six months to a year and then tally up what you have in it! BY then its old and doesnt compete with whats new.

@DumbledoreMcCracken I liked but somehow I have to disagree, this new generation is not one to get out there and actually experience it. On paper and video and in person , this is a BAD ass vehicle and has always had a great to good history to it. That being said, I think its higher end models make a great selling point! I will say unfortunately, that anyone that has money can own these monsters and that is plain out scary! Way too much power for the average person!

You need to keep reading; Corvette's victories are not limited to the last three years.

Your alleged string of Porsche victories is kinda hard to believe, since the first Porsche (356) wasn't built/sold until 1948-50.

Don't let your enthusiasm for Germans blind you to history.

Ahhh, another thing, you mention that corvette has won 3 years in a row, ok, but Porsche has won the last 70 years if not podium all the time, but Porsche has more victories by itself than all factories teams together, THAT'S SOMETHING

Chevrolet (GM) is considering what other manufacturers are considering by branching off Corvette. Fiat did this with Ram and SRT and will do so with Viper. Ford is considering the same with Mustang. This is fueled I think by the fact American cars (sedans mostly) don't sell. As a result Ford and GM are ceasing domestic car sales to concentrate on trucks and SUV's. The exception being their halo and sports cars. Another reason to split off would be to raise the status of these vehicles. Both Ford and GM would love to get top dollar for their sports cars and not have to deeply discount them shortly after initial release. Remember when the the Z06 and ZR1's came out they were stickered over $100K. But they routinely sold for 10-15% less. I think if they could get the quality up, and better reliability they could hold their price better and justify seperate brands. Obviously, a Corvette-only dealer alone wouldn't work. But if they do something like Mercedes did with AMG, or simply incentivised their dealers to build special add-ons for Corvette it may work. Old models don't work anymore in this economic environment so GM taking this chance probably wouldn't be "far-fetched." Sure, they would lose some customers that want a cheap sports car, but if their endgame is to raise Corvette to another level to be on par with companies like Porsche, they may need to to make moves like this. Performance is there, but the quality and experience is not. Just my .02 cents.

The Thing is, there is not a single Chevrolet badge, or Bowtie emblem on my C7 Corvette. It's all the crossed flags emblem and the words Corvette and a Stingray emblem, that's it. Even the VIN sticker on the door only says GM.

They could not be a new car stand alone brand and be profitable. The only way it could even come close would be to have a super center for Corvette pre-owned, service, paint and body. With GM cutting almost all car lines, there is pinch for money so this is a no go.

The answers to all of your questions are as follows: #1- The idea of the Corvette becoming its own brand will never happen. #2- If the Vette were to become a stand alone brand, it would destroy Chevrolet, and GM. #3- The C8 would suffer imensly from this, because, the sales numbers would fall far below current sales, as well as the number of people coming to the dealerships would drop. #4- Stand alone Corvette only dealerships is big mistake for GM. #5- The current price of the car would skyrocket to a price point far above the current price range. And finally, #6- Building stand alone Corvette only Dealerships a giant waste of GM's money, along with adding on to existing dealerships as well.

This is what they've been saying they were going to do for some time they just never confirmed it. Making Corvette it's own brand makes it so they can have large variations of the car but still run the Corvette name. I'm guessing you'll see front and mid engine as well as others but now they will all be Corvette.
